Ginger ale is a soda, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have it once in a while. Studies have shown all sorts of problems with diet sodas, and I don't think that there is a nutritionist out there would tell a client to drink it, even occasionally, but regular soda, particularly non-colas, have far fewer issues. The real issue with soda is, of course, calories. If you want to drink it, you are consuming 120-140 calories worth of sugar water, and those are calories you could be spending on something with nutritional content. However, if you are sick, and not really eating much of anything, and ginger ale sounds appealing, then go ahead and drink it. It's hydrating you, giving you some sugar, and not harming you.

Most of the popular ginger ale brands don't even contain any actual ginger. They contain "natural and/or artificial flavouring." So it really has no "medicinal" purpose at all. Heh, my mother used to make me drink flat, warm Canada Dry whenever I was ill - I grew up with an aversion to it as a result (my brain totally associated the taste and smell of ginger ale with throwing up eww).

A "tea" made with crushed slices of fresh ginger, a squeeze of lemon and honey to sweeten if desired, is a lot more effective at soothing a cough or hydrating you when you're sick.

And yeah, as the others have mentioned, there's really nothing to debate - ginger ale is most definitely soda.

Of course ginger ale is soda.
Does it have sugar in it?
Is it carbonated?

It's soda.

Ginger Ale is definitely soda pop, regular or diet.

Try drinking ginger tea for an upset stomach instead. No sugar or artificial sweeteners added.

I would consider it soda. Canada Dry has 93 calories in 8 ounces and 15g sugar. Carbs aren't horrible, but the calories and sugar for the amount doesn't seem worth it to me. But everything is ok in moderation or in my case sparingly. Sometimes I crave a coke so bad and occasionally I give in. We deserve to indulge from time to time.

Okay... so we all know ginger ale has some good parts to it and maybe some bad parts..

Sometimes i drink it when i have upset stomach and sometimes it help..

But i am just wondering if we should consider it as soda? I have not drank any ginger ale in a while and so i dont remember the sugar content if any. What are your thoughts on Ginger Ale? This goes for diet ginger ale as well...
