Cutting high glycemic carbs helps control my appetite, by removing cravings, and by dropping my carbs down to 5-6 %, my fat ends up at 65-70% daily. I think it is a combo of the two. Fat satiates, but avoiding trigger foods is important also.
There are many high fat high carb trigger foods, like doughnuts, but not too many very high fat foods with few carbs, that cause cravings. People tend to not binge on mayonnaise, meat, or macadamia nuts. The lack of appetite helps eat lower calories, despite being more calories per gram.
