Guys do tend to lose weight at a quicker rate. It's just how they're built. Females are designed to carry a little extra weight to support a child in the event of famine. Men are designed to have more muscle mass, and muscle burn more calories.
However, health isn't just about weight loss. I have to eat pretty cleanly in order to lose weight at a reasonable pace. I have to be stricter about the kinds of food I eat, and the calories- which means that even if my weight isn't going down as quickly, I'm at least creating lifelong healthy habits.

It's not you, don't worry! Us guys just tend to lose weight quicker than our female counterparts. Just ask my best friend (female) about that when we try to lose weight together. I am able to eat more calories than her and have a tendency to lose weight a little quicker. It has nothing to do with you, it's just how the body works. Guys naturally have more muscle mass by default and will burn more calories daily. So, please don't feel discouraged! What you are doing is working and you are doing a great job!! Keep it up!

Generally speaking, due to the increase in testosterone and muscle mass in men, they have a propensity to lose weight faster. I know. It sucks and it isn't fair. Unfortunately that's how we are biologically. However, one thing that you can do about that is be super diligent about a strength training routine. As I stated, men are typically able to lose weight faster due to their increase in muscle mass. Increase your muscle mass and you, too, will have more calorie burning going on. It may not be a lot more and it may still not be at your husband's level of burn but it is extra. All you have to do is a little strength training three times a week. And, another plus side of ST is even if the weight isn't budging on the scale, you will still appear slimmer due to the muscles tightening and firming up. Good luck!
Try not to be too frustrated! My husband does the same thing! He eats "healthy" but his snacks are terrible. He has a desk job and maybe works out 30 minutes every other day and he can lose 4 lbs in a week just because he's made up his mind to lose weight even though he doesn't change anything! He's 6'3 and weighs 200 lbs so he isn't fat or anything. Me, on the other hand, I workout 2-3 hours a day and eat a healthy vegan diet. It takes me a week to lose a pound if I'm lucky!

My husband jumped on the bandwagon. He started losing weight immediately even while not sticking closely to the plan and not exercising as much.
It can be frustrating.
I have to remind myself that we are different. I keep chugging along and know that I'll get to goal when I get there. It doesn't seem fair but few things in life really are.
It helps me a little that I've taken a scale hiatus. I don't compare my number on the scale to his at all. I don't recommend this as it isn't a good idea for everyone.
It is a good idea to just concentrate on doing your best to be the healthiest you can. Men and women are just physically very different. We're better off not comparing our rate of weight loss with their and not comparing our muscle gain to theirs.
In reality, as others have said, it's not about whether we are losing as quickly as someone else, even a person of the same sex. It's about being healthy.
Our bodies are making changes, constantly working, doing things we can't see. Even if the number on the scale isn't going down as quickly as we like, great things are happening in our bodies when we eat good food in reasonable portions and maintain an active lifestyle.

I was in a similar situation as the nutritionist, meal planner, shopper, chef, etc. I managed to get mine involved with the planning and shopping and now he's the sous chef in our house. We just make it fun instead of work. Baby steps. If you have a long way to go, it's going to take some time to get there and you can't hold onto resentment and be successful in your own goals.
Sounds like part of your frustration is his hands off approach. I would suggest that you get him more involved with the work that it takes to prepare and track food. Congratulations on your weight loss, 7lbs is a great start!

I am sensing that there is more here than just frustration about weight loss. I am guessing that you are more frustrated about the lack of support and teamwork from your man than the fact that he is blessed with more muscle, more testosterone and, consequently, a shorter lifespan.
Maybe consider a talk with him about what he can do to be supportive of both your goals? I would tread lightly and get him to come up with something rather than assigning him to a task, but really.....get him in on some (even small) aspect of this or resentment will fester. Some men feel cornered and attacked when confronted with even the simplest request, but really do work on this.
Now that is advice I could follow for myself!

When he hits goal, he will stop, and you will catch up. Stop worrying about fast he is losing, and be happy. Think about 2 years from now, when you are both happy and healthy. You are losing, so now all you need is time. Congrats on your 7 lbs.
Maybe what you really want is for him to do some of the planning, and be more of a diet partner, than a dependent? If so, just say, let's plan the next week's menu, and make him contribute. That way you are both doing some work, and sharing the effort, as well as the benefit.

If it makes you feel any better, little men feel the same way about big men. One of my best friends is a man who's only about 5'4". He has been battling his weight ever since I've known him. One day another friend who is about 6'2" made an offhand comment about how he gave up beer for Lent and dropped 30 pounds. I thought the little guy was going to punch him! (Luckily there was no chair handy for him to climb up on.)

I am not going to say this about "all" men; but these are 2 factors that can make weight loss faster for a male.
They are usually taller and they usually have more muscle mass (even when overweight/obese), Muscle is more metabolically active than fat. Muscle burns more calories 24/7. Burn more calories = more weight loss.
Another thing...sometimes men can have a more active job/lifestyle (but this depends greatly from person to person).

Yes, my husband *thinks* about losing weight and 10 lbs fall off him in a couple weeks, all while still eating Taco Bell, McDonalds and drinking beer. I had to work my butt off for it, counting every calorie that went in my mouth, working out 6 days a week. It's not fair but it is what it is. Men have more muscle vs. fat than us. Muscles burns more calories than fat at rest, giving them a naturally faster metabolism.
"Toning" is marketing muscles to women who are afraid if they pick up a barbell, they'll leave the gym looking like She-Hulk. It doesn't happen, what does happen is you get results. Lifting Barbie weights does nothing but waste time.

I don't know if men lose "easier" but they do seem to lose "differently" - and sometimes it sure does seem to be faster.
I started Sparking on January 5, 2013, 100# overweight. Somewhere mid-February, my spouse decided he might as well try and drop a few too, and joined me in some healthier eating. He was about 120# overweight. WELL despite the fact that I have been a Poster Child for Sparking, and lost what I consider to be a massive amount of weight in one year (70 pounds), he outdid me. He lost 100# between mid-February and December. 100#!!!!
Yeah, it's not a race and not a competition and I am super-proud of him, but dang! What's a girl gotta do! I guess just run my own race and keep on trucking to the goal line. :)
Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE** Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE** Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)
First off congrats on your weight loss, celebrate the wins no matter big or small. This isn't a race. It is what it is, men always will lose more without trying as hard. Try not to be too hard on yourself, keep doing what your doing. You might want to step it up , add more exercise mix things up to increase the calorie burn. The bottom line is you both are moving in the right direction getting healthy and being happier. You are better than you were yesterday so keep it up!! Good luck!!
lol...you sound like that commercial, the couple cuts out soda and the husband loses 10 pounds, while the wife loses 1, then they cut out chips and the husband loses anther 5 pounds, while the wife loses 1.
Well, at least look at this way, at least he is along for the ride with you, and isn't complaining about the change in diet!!
Some men do lose weight faster - but so do some women! Every single person's body on this planet is different, I know it's frustrating, but please don't sweat it - just keep doing the good work, and tweak your diet as needed to find what works best for you.
The best exercise in the world is to bend down and help someone up.

Ugh! We are not having a contest or anything, it's just frustrating. I feel like I am doing ALL the work, figuring out all the calories and telling him how much to eat. I'm like his personal nutritionalist and he doesn't have to do anything but eat. I cook all the meals and separate healthy snacks into portions. I feel like I am working so hard! I mean I'm happy for him but I am much much more overweight than him so he isn't far from where he needs to be while I have over 100 pounds to go. I guess it's true that men lose faster than women.
