Like Anarie said, I think the only difference with spicy food is you eat slower and because of that, likely eat less of it as well. So, no reason to eat it if you don't like it, just eat what you do like slower.

It doesn't speed up your metabolism to any significant degree-- people who are strongly affected by capsaicin burn an extra 1-10 calories a day. But it does help you lose weight in another way. When your food is spicy, you eat less of it and you stay satisfied longer. If you don't like spicy-hot, try extra garlic and/or lots of other herbs and spices. They'll have the same effect.

Thanks for the input - I really appreciate it :)

While it MIGHT be scientifically-true to some minuscule extent.... certainly not enough effect to make any discernible difference to your weight loss. So if you don't like spicy-hot-food, don't make yourself eat it in the hope that it will "help you lose."

Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

I have heard that spicy foods can speed up the metabolism. Is this really true? I have a pallette that is not thrilled with hot foods, but if it speeds up the metabolism, perhaps it is something worth looking into.
