Check out the link with regards to potential harm from eating certain veggies RAW. Keep in mind that the concern is in terms of "daily" NOT occasional...

Occasional use of a variety of smoothies IS a part of my food intake, but they do not satisfy my need to "chew" my food.

I had lost 9 pounds doing a 10 day modified Green Smoothie Cleansing. I felt hungry from time to time, however I did have other fresh vegetables, fruit, almonds, boiled eggs, baked sweet potatoes, and Greek yogurt on hand with the hunger.

Progress may be slow, but it happens!

They didn't do much for me. Spinach or Kale...fruit...Greek yogurt...with and without chia seeds and flax seeds. While I'm sure I got some nutritional value from them, I never got full. I still ended up hungry.

I always add spinach to my smoothies too, but I haven't tried any other greens. Anyone have a good recipe?

Thanks for the info, everyone. I'm lucky in that I LOVE LOVE LOVE most fruits and veggies. I'm not a vegetarian, but it doesn't take much convincing to get me to eat a salad or a plate of broccoli. I'm excited about trying some of your suggestions. Seems like a great way to get in more healthy stuff in one delicious bang. (I hope that didn't sound off-color…)

I don't consider the smoothies I drink 'green' smoothies but I do always add fresh spinach to every smoothies I have. It never takes away from any of the taste but it's great to have in there for the veggie factor. I usually do a blueberry/strawberry mix and then will sometimes add in mangos, bananas, rasberries, greek yogurt, almond milk, peanut butter, chia seeds, etc. but it almost always contains blueberries, strawberries, and spinach. If you feel like your green smoothies are a bit to much to get down, I would suggest just focusing on one green to throw in along with fruit that offers a lot of health benefits like antioxidants.

at least one a day sometimes more. I do add some protein if I am not using high protein veggies. I don't add sugar or sugar substitutes. I find the fruit is plenty.

Yes, they fill me up. I don't gulp it down either. It could take me 45 minutes to an hour to consume one.

:)

I've got some broccoli in my fridge! I think it would go well with apple, ginger, and grapefruit. So many possible combinations!

I've tried them and I wasn't impressed. Drinking my food doesn't work for me. I prefer to chew and eat food in order to feel full and satisfied. They seem to pass through my stomach really quickly since they're all blended up and my stomach doesn't have to do much work.

You don't have to eat the whole thing.

What are your experiences with drinking green smoothies? Has it helped you stay full/manage cravings/lose weight? I've been trying to have one at breakfast lately, making sure they have some protein in them and that they're not too sweet. Curious to know other people's thoughts!
