i'd say a pound or two, perhaps three is a reasonable goal in that timeframe. remember, the goal is to take it off and keep it off. and i can't think of anything that would take off five pounds and keep it off in a ten day span. unless you were eating 4000 mg of sodium a day and you cut back to no more than 1300 a day, then you might be able to get an extra few pounds of water weight loss in there. but i'd say to cut back to no more than 3lbs as your loss goal by the 22nd.

Set your goal to 2 pounds lost.
What is your daily calorie range?
Set other small goals for each day, like:
getting 5 servings of fruits and veggies
getting 6 days of planned fitness
drinking at least 5 cups of water

5 pounds is very aggressive given the time between your birthday and now. I would suggest setting a goal that is more easily controlled than a weight #. Decided on a behavior goal (stay within range, fruit/vegetable servings, exercise, whatever), and celebrate on your birthday with the knowledge that you are starting down a healthy path.

My birthday is January 22.

I have recommitted myself to healthy weightloss, and my goal is too take 30 pounds off my 195 pound 5'2" body by August 11th.

I am one of those people who is sparked by results, so I'd like to set a reasonable short-term goal for my birthday.

Is 5 pounds reasonable enough for someone over 40?
Do you think it is achievable through diet only?
