I feel your pain. I've had a nasty sinus infection for two weeks and have had no appetite. The thought of eating makes me cringe. I've been focusing more on quality than quantity lately since I know I've been under my recommended daily minimum. Do what you can, eat healthfully when you do, and if it's just the result of a virus your appetite should return to normal soon. I have supplemented the last few days with protein drinks simply because it's easy to get a good chunk of calories into a rather small drink that way. I'm not typically a protein drink type of person but it's helped me get close to the 1200 cal a day mark. Can't wait for this to pass!!! Feel better!

Ugh. I spent most of December either sick or getting over something, including a stomach virus and a nasty cold that had me coughing every night for two weeks. My appetite was nonexistent and I lost several pounds I didn't even want to lose. All you can really do is force yourself to eat, to get somewhere in the neighborhood of your minimum calories for the day at least, because you know your body needs it. Your appetite will return, after all, and you'll get back to your normal routine more easily and with less chance of binge-y backlash if you haven't been severely undereating along the way. Don't worry too much about what you eat (besides avoiding junk of course), just get some calories into yourself.

It's perfectly normal not to have much appetite during/after a flu/cold. I'm like that every time. It usually takes a week or so to fully recover. If you are stuffy, and can't taste much, spicy foods can help clear things up. Perhaps add ginger, garlic and chilies to a soup? And my grandmother always had me eat bananas when I ran a fever growing up. Fruits will often spark my appetite. I would guess because of the sugars. Hope you feel better soon!

I got sick Monday. Fever, runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, cough and headache. I hardly ate anything for 3 days because I had no appetite and felt somewhat nauseous.

Today I'm feeling better though. Breakfast and lunch was homemade turkey soup. For dinner I had sweet potato home fries with chopped bacon pieces and onion, eggs and fresh raw vegetables. Maybe tomorrow I will actually have some energy!

How long have you felt that way? There is a nasty flu going around and that sounds like flu symptoms, which often come with lack of appetite/lack of energy to eat. Usually the day I first feel better my body still wants to play it safe and not eat too much, and I try to choose something simple but higher calorie (i.e. pasta, sandwich, etc) to make sure my body has something to work with.

I hope you're back to 100% soon!

I seem to have the same problems. I don't eat regularly because I sleep usually late, my breakfast is usually my lunch and my dinner, well, between dinner time and my time to go to bed. I exercise in the afternoons the days that I do and have a very irregular schedule. I think this is my main problem: to much sleep (lol). When I get my breakfast, I don't get hungry until very late in the evening, I have no appetite whatsoever. I usually fall very short of my total calorie intake and have to force myself to eat to reach at least the 1,000 calories. I am good with my water intake, that keeps me going to the bathroom until late at night. I guess I was not much help to you, uh? emoticon

Don't let what you can't do get in the way of what you can.

Hello,
I fight with the loss of appetite a lot and that is why it has been difficult to lose this weight. When I don't eat properly, my body thinks I am starving it and goes into starvation mode and stores it as fat.
It continues to be a struggle.
Any ideas?

Thank you

Hello wonderful community,

recently I have not been feeling well, had a high fever, cough, cold, sore throat, and although today I am feeling a lot better, I still have not got my appetite back, and usually I love my food but nothing seems tasty. Have others experience the same or different?
