How "low carb" of a diet are we talking?

If you're going the route of a stricter low-carb diet, neither may be suitable unless in very small portions. Most of the carbs from these diets generally come from vegetables.

If you're just looking to eat less carbs because you feel you're getting too many, subbing oatmeal for rice isn't unreasonable, but eating an appropriate sized portion of rice isn't unreasonable either. My diet is generally lower-than-Spark-recommend carb (but not really "low carb") and eating rice and oatmeal, even in the same day, usually won't get me close to my minimum recommended carbs.

Do something everyday that your future self will thank you for.

A cup of cooked oatmeal has about 27 grams of carbohydrates. A cup of cooked white rice has about 44 grams of carbohydrates. So yes, there are fewer carbohydrates in the oatmeal, but oatmeal is not a low-carb food. It's a healthy food, but strictly speaking, it's not low-carb. Does it need to be either- or? Personally I prefer to vary what carbohydrates I eat -- sometimes brown rice, sometimes half a baked potato, sometimes oats, sometimes whole wheat bread.

Yes, I do. Oatmeal is one of the best carbs and to provide a quick burst of energy. Oatmeal is best had in its unflavored and unsweetened form. Maybe not so low on carbs but its has lots of nutrients and soluable fiber...

Eating oats regularly can help keep your cholesterol in check. Oats can slow down the digestion process and provide an extended feeling of fullness. This makes them good for people who want to lose weight. They also have lots of B vitamins for energy.

Here is also some info that may assist you in your choices

Hi, I am trying to eat less carbs and rice used to be my main source of carb. I tried swapping it with oats and it has the same filling effect to me. Do you think that this will work for my low carb diet?
