oh man I am so with you on this one. I have been drinking 80oz of pure mountain dew a day knowing it's HORRIBLE for me. You have to find something that works for you. For me, I have been able to switch to unsweetened iced tea which still gives me the caffeine, but none of the sugar. the first few days are HARD.. headaches and whatnot, but once you detox it gets much easier. Once I get through detox I add more water and cut back a little on the tea. Some days I drink more tea than water, but I found that was the easiest solution for me. Just find something you can stomach and start cutting back.
I know it's not super healthy, but I think you should start by switching to diet soda. At least you arent drinking ALL of your calories that way. I like crystal lite, they even make some of them with caffeine so that could help too.
I need my water to be super cold, but you get used to it and learn to like it.

Sounds crazy but once I start drinking more water it's like I crave it. I was never a huge water drinker either.. I had to cut soda cold turkey or couldn't quit. You could try iced tea.. They also have flavored seltzer waters that have carbonation like soda..

You can count ANY fluid as water, but don't include alcohol.
The main point with water is that there are no calories or additives. You body gets fluid from fruit, veges - even cheese. There is also no "hard-and-fast rule" which says you HAVE to drink 8 glasses of anything. That is just a guide and is dependent on a number of factors.
i used to be a diet coke addict, and had regular migraines because of it. I have slowly weened myself off it ( and all artificial sweeteners) completely. Perhaps cold turkey is not the way to go for you, but perhaps eliminating one glass a day per week would help. Then the following week eliminate a second glass. I was not a huge water fan either, but once i switched, i noticed i was feeling so much better.
Try flavored (not sweetened) seltzer water. It's what I drink most of the time since I don't like plain flat water. The only other things I drink now are plain unsweetened tea, and one cup of coffee a day with milk (I wish I could drink it black, but I just can't.)
Liquid calories are such a waste and once you break the soda habit it really will not even taste good anymore, just insanely sweet. The flavored seltzer is a great alternative! The first few days without soda might be tough but it is totally worth giving up. Good luck!
ETA: I would also suggest either weaning off the soda slowly, or having a couple cups of coffee a day at first instead of the soda to avoid caffeine withdrawal. Those headaches can be wicked if you try to go cold turkey.

I am with you also OP. I would like to cut out sodas again. I am not a huge fan of water unless it is ice cold. I am trying again. The first time I did great and only had soda when we went out to eat which was usually once a week and sips off of my husband's drink. Now I am trying for the second time around. I have been adding lemon to my water. I even found some Ocean Spray Sparkling Cranberry juice that is tasty. Cutting out soda will help a lot. I just need to do it.
I kicked the habit by gradual reduction, which also helps with the caffeine withdrawal. After I rid myself of the daily habit, I would have it as a treat. And then the times got farther between. The last few times, it just didn't even taste good to me anymore. I just drink a lot of water. I also have an infuser pitcher and you can make all sorts of tasty blends with fruit, cucumber or herbs.
In the summer I drink soda, but it is greatly watered down. I started years ago at full strength, then added a little water. When I got used to that I added a little more water. Now I drink about 1/4 soda topped up with water. I don't drink coke - it is usually something like ginger ale or ginger beer (which I am having at the moment) or lemonade. I mainly only drink it in summer, which we are in the middle of here. Another thing I sometimes do is make a flavoured tea - my favourites being peach, and lemon or lemon/ginger. I make it quite strong and then refrigerate it. When I want a drink I use the tea with a splash of lemonade.
Another thing you can do is to add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice to your water.
I drink iced teas sweetened with Splenda, mineral whater and bottled water. You can try crystal light. But as for water you will start to like it if you consistently drink it. Your body will crave it. If you need flavor slice a lemon and add it to your water. It will give a light flavor any fruit or herb will work. try ginger or cucumber also.
