Accountability. I couldn't have lost my weight OR maintained it without careful tracking. "Eyeballing" it just doesn't cut it for me..

I need to track most all the time, not just so that I can stay from going over my limit but often so that I don't go Under. there are days for me that I am soo busy that I don't eat or skip a meal, usually lunch and by the end of the day, when I remember to take time to track, I will see that I have room for something more to eat before I head to bed. My favorite snack is a wedge of cheese on a few Ritz crackers. W/O tracking,I would have probably gone to bed short of my calorie range.

It let me know that I am still in on my intake. That I have so much more to eat to get my calorie intake.

Tracking helps me stay with my weight loss goals. It makes me think about what I am about to put in my mouth and the weight loss tracker helps me realize that I have come far.

It is so helpful. I have been going to the point where I am looking at where my calorie is so far low than it should be. If I wasn't tracking I wouldn't know how low it is.

By tracking I was able to see that I wasn't getting enough calories, protein, or good carbs. What an eye opener when I found out why I was hungry. I am now planning my meals ahead of time. There are no surprises and I am full. That terrible hunger never takes over.
For me it worked and keeps me feeling in control.

I generally don't track unless I'm worried about certain nutrients (I have a medicinal diet) or want to check to make sure I'm not over or undereating.

Dietitians make it very clear that counting calories can be addictive and in the end, harmful, to ones body. It develops a sense of guilt if you go over or under when it is completely normal which can cause a distorted sense of health, self, and image.

Eating healthy simply means eating proper portions and the right foods. You do not need to count calories to eat healthy.

since my PCP (DR) wnats me to really keep close watch on my sodium intake, I need to faithfully log my foods. there are sooo many foods with hidden sodium in them that if I don't track, I often will end up going waaayyy over.

The only way to maintain consistency is NOT to do it every day or else you get either bored or defensive or both! I am trying Monday and Thursday this week. Next week 2 different days.

It's a hassle, but it's necessary. I stopped for awhile and gained weight. Part of what's helpful about tracking is the reminder throughout the day that you're trying to reach a goal. Mindless eating is not an option. Calories matter.

Feel often like I'm a lab rat. Tracking my food daily. But on the positive, it's the only way I have been able to lose weight, and maintain that loss. I do it, because it works!

You should track every time you eat. That way you know where you are.

When I wait until the end of the day to track my food, I almost always end up going over. That shows me that I need to track my food.

Tracking is important to me because calories add up really fast. It also keeps me accountable and it has helped me make many more healthy choices so far. It's also interesting to see how much potassium and magnesium I am getting.

Need to track to see how much protein I am actually taking in every day. Suddenly realised that it's much less than it ideally should be!!

I really do believe it is the reason for my success. It keeps me honest! It also helps me find out where I need to improve my nutrition.... emoticon

I am really bad at getting enough protein and when I track I can see exactly how much I am getting and work to add more

Just realised that when I was tracking, I was very disciplined and I practised discipline in other aspects including sleeping enough and exercising every day. When I stopped tracking, I fell off the bandwagon completely!!!

I was just thinking that I am tired of tracking. But I honestly don't think I am ready to stop yet. I am still working on eating the right foods with the right nutrition. So I think I will keep tracking a while longer. emoticon

I have decided not to track my food consumption for the next two weeks to see if it will make a difference in my weight loss efforts. I want to see if I have become more disciplined and have learned the basics of portion control. Besides I just don't think that tracking can be a lifelong measure.

Always a lesson, never a mistake.
One day at a time.

I was really great about tracking when I started, then I started eating only whole/non preservative foods and stopped tracking. Now I have to get back to tracking again...I got lazy about portions again.

Today marks the first day of my tracking efforts for 2014. So far so good. And I am now on my first and only nougat. Yeah! Yeah!
