Kathy.. I see what your saying. The only meal I think we eat at a "normal" time is dinner. I don't mess with dinner because that's when my 11 year old is home.its one meal we eat together. I know i have to adjust some things around my schedule but I guess its like do I really have to let it affect her? It does make it alittle hard she is tall and thin with a high metabolism. She feels self conscious cause she feels shes too thin. She can eat and eat and not gain a pound I gain it just watching her eat I swear.
dinner is kinda our foundation meal, its the one meal that doesn't change everything else can revolve around. The way you do it makes sense really.

the only thing I really know what to say is that no matter what shift you work. everones eating schedule and sleep is different. so you just need to make it right and work for you.

the rocky road before you now will lead you to a rainbow.

happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true.

almost anything in life is easier to get into than out of.

a diamond is a piece of coal that stuck to the job.

sow an act and you reap a habit. sow a habit and you reap a character. sow a character and you reap a destiny.

I work 10:30pm - 6:30am full time. I have tried eating a regular meal at work but what works better for me is eating two snacks during my work breaks. I usually bring yogurt, almonds and fruit for one snack and cheese, triscuit or wheat thins and fruit for my other snack and I usually drink most of my water when I am at work.
I plan my nutrition tracker from 6:30am - 6:30am. I usually have breakfast when I get off of work or wake up for the day. Sometimes I eat lunch and dinner at "normal" lunch and dinner times. Sometimes I eat lunch at dinner time and dinner before I go to work.
On days that I get off of work in the morning and don't have to go back in at night I use as my "splurge" days because I eat all my calories between 6:30am and 11pm. On days after my night off and I have to go into work at night I add more fruits and veggies and maybe even split a meal into 2 small meals because I will be eating my calories for the whole 24 hr period.

Another day another step closer to a healthy life.

Kathy

I worked a 5-1 a.m. shift for years. What I did was eat breakfast around 11 a.m., and then take a nap. Wake up at 3:30, cook lunch, and go to work at 5, after lunch. I would have a snack at work around 9 p.m., and eat dinner at 1:30 a.m. when I got home. The time does not matter. As long as you are eating the proper amounts every 24 hours, it doesn't matter if it is from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m., or 11 a.m.- 1 a.m.

I didn't get to sleep till 3 a.m. , so I sure wasn't going to wake up at 6 or 7 a.m. just to eat breakfast at the right time. Snacks that you can keep in your car are a big help getting through the day with. Sometimes I would have 2-3 snacks, instead of a meal, in a pinch.

Eventually you find a system that works for you.

Nights is suppose to be one of the most unhealthy shifts to work.Thats why I try to be conscious of what im eating here. I do work by my self and in my down time I do calisthenics. Its nice to be able to work out here, plus it helps in your tired time of the night. I just feel all reveresed. like im missing important meals. I work basically every other night fixed schedule. but i have a second job too. I work that in the morning before i come in to my main midnight job. Thats ok to work around cause I eat breakfast before I go in, but then if i eat lunch normally and dinner normally by the time mid night shift im hungry, I feel like im eating 4 meals a day. But when i go home not having to work the second its sleep time I wake up and its like ok what meal am I on its why I love the tracker but its still hard to plan. Half the time it all runs together and I barely remember the date to do my paperwork. Its just alittle fustrating to make sure im feeding myself right.
Yesterday I was way below my calorie intake but I worked both jobs, then had to come in for a few hours to train someone on nights.. went home and back in this morning at 8. Lets not talk about sleep. I told my boss im leaving early today I have a hot date with my pillow. But all this kinda schedule of eating and sleeping can so mess with your weight.

I forgot to add, sometimes when you are really tired on nights it is easy to lose all your willpower, that's why it's important to have decent food with you. It's easy to quit caring about what you are stuffing in your face when you are dead tired!

It depends on your schedule. I work nights, 12 hour shifts (6:30 pm to 6:30 am), and on my first night, I will wake up early, work out, have breakfast, and have a nap from about noon until 4 pm. I then eat at around 9 pm, and 1 am. Seconds night is easier, as I will sleep most of the day, eat breakfast at around 3 pm, and then again lunch at 9 pm and supper at around 1 am. Luckily, I also have the option of working out while at work, so that helps. If you only work nights occasionally, I think eating lighter is the right way to go. I find when I work nights, I eat a lot less than when I work days or am at home, probably because I feel the same way that stuffing my face in the middle of the night isn't great. Probably just psychological though. I do tend to eat better while on nights, and work out a lot more (it's nice being paid to work out)

Its so hard to stay on track when I work midnights. Its like my breakfasts are in the middle of the night... normal peoples breakfast is like my lunch which I feel inclined to eat breakfast because its breakfast time. and my dinner is a normal dinner with my daughter. Its the breakfast in (in the middle of the night) and a normal breakfast... i just feel im missing lunch in there and its all because of my whackedout schedule. then... then... on my days off its back to eating normal meals when they are suppose to be eaten. It just seems/feels so hard to have consistancy. Thing is I hate eating in the middle of the night... its not "normal". But I need to eat something so I keep it light.. aka more like a snack like... idk yogurt and a garnola bar or yogurt and fruit. Who really likes eatting in the middle of the night? But then I feel im thrown off.
Any perspectives or suggestions to help me see this better. Any alternate points of view how should I look at this? It makes it a challange on what to eat when.
Thanks fellow sparkies
