Just explain it to her in a nice way. Tell her thanks for everything but that's not in your food plan. You are going for good health and a better lifestyle.

My job is much of the same. We have huge events for our clients and all the leftovers go into the break kitchen. My issue is my supervisor. She ( and others too actually) know I'm trying to work out but they keep buying me cookies and chocolate. She bought me a BLT with home fries and fired apples for breakfast yesterday and bought me cookies from Subway this morning. I don't know how to ask her to stop without hurting her feelings. When we first met, our love of food was what we bonded over. Now when she gives me things I have to hide them and pretend like I ate them and I end up throwing them away.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again.
This time more intelligently.

I read about doing this a while ago and I wish I could remember where I read it, because it's been a lifesaver for me. Goodies in the break room used to be my downfall on a daily basis. Now when I see stuff in there (when I go in to microwave my lunch, or get some coffee, or just go by and look in the door on my way to the bathroom) that I want to chow down on, I imagine biting into it and finding maggots. It stops the temptation dead in its tracks.....

Our office is a major minefield. Any extra food is put out & everyone is welcome to eat it. The problem is that they are not always healthy. Just this week we had food in the break-room three times. Twice from managers meetings and the third from our nutrition meeting. The first one meal was easy to ignore - it was pasta & chicken in an Alfredo sauce. I was feeling strong & ignored it. The second was taco shells and taco fixings. I just made a small salad & skipped the unhealthy foods. The third was just left-over banana pieces - so it was something healthy. If it wasn't for the water cooler being in the breakroom - I would avoid it. I've learned to stick to my goals & to faithfully write it down. Otherwise, I'll stop by and grab something without thinking it through.

My best weapon is my nutrition tracker. When I see how many calories I've taken in and what I have left to use, I think twice about that cookie or cake or other sweet! If I really want to indulge, I will just take a very small piece then walk away from the other temptations. Keeping up with my nutrition tracker is vital to being able to walk away, at least for me.

My work always has food in the break room, and people offering food around. Holidays were the worst.

I think people at my work are starting to think I am anti-social. I avoid the holiday parties, the luncheons, and other events and sit at my desk with the food I brought. When I go and try to be social, there are too many "pushers"... well meaning people who would bring food and say... "try it, you can diet again tomorrow" or "one piece of cake/candy/pie never hurt anyone", or my favorite "life is short, eat dessert first". I used to be one of those people, so I know. One person recently was particularly pushy and said the life is short one and I responded probably too forcefully... "Life will be a lot shorter when I die from heart disease, high blood pressure, or complications of diabetes... which I was well on the way to doing before I stopped eating dessert first!" People have seen the weight loss, so they know what I have done and am doing, so though I apologized to the woman who had been pushy and explained my stance... I have been un-apologetically rude before and not worried about it.

This is about me, not them. My issues with food. I do not expect anyone else to change, but I cannot and will not let polite behavior undermine me.

As a SAHM I don't have anyone else to blame but me for the goodies and treats on every table. Wouldn't it be a nice change if someone brought in a veggie tray with hummus, or a basket of clementines!

I am very glad the holiday season is over and the abundance of goodies has stopped. I was able to avoid most of it this year as my office is down stairs and the break room is upstairs.

Now it is back to the routine of bringing my lunch and snacks from home and only going upstairs for water or something cold to drink.

Had a new employee luncheon today. I felt I did pretty good with the regular pizza but should have thought twice about the dessert pizza. It was super greasy, way to sweet, and now I have tummy ache!

I can relate to that! That is part of all the pounds I've packed on. I just tell them no now. I'm not eating that way anymore, I'm dieting. I've never worked anywhere that had this much food around, it is everywhere! and all the wrong stuff too. I just bring my own stuff now and don't join in anymore.

My workplace is also a minefield. Our boss is the biggest offender. Even when she herself is dieting, she brings in baked goods and treats. She likes to have the candy dishes full in case visitors come by, too. The only thing that has worked for me is to commit to not eating any of it. For whatever reason, that works better for me than thinking "oh, I can have just one piece of candy", because it seems like once I open that dish and help myself to one, it is that much easier to go help myself to another. I do make sure that I don't go to work hungry. Also, I make sure I have alternatives handy, like fresh fruit.

I ride motorcycle 2-3 times a week, usually 150-200 miles round trip, so that's a lot of sitting, & then restraunt food, so I pack plenty of water, fruit, nuts. For cravings, on breaks, that helps me to be sensible at the restraunt, sometimes if I really crave something on menu, my hubby will split/ share a meal. Half the calories, and no left overs. That's a good thing.

My work always seems to have something less than healthy. I just make sure to always bring a lot of healthy snacks so that should hunger strike, I can nibble on a some fresh veggies, have a piece of fruit, some whole grain crackers, lean jerky, etc, and make sure I always have my water glass filled with nice cold water.

Unfortunately I am one of the people providing food. I am a baker, baking is recreation for me. I bake great things, leave only a few pieces at home for DB (he needs them less than I do) and take the rest to work. I label things so our few allergic people know not to have any. This is not every day or even every week that I do it. However we have food around a lot as our faculty seem to have lunch served to them 2-3 times a week for meetings/seminars/presentations. When the event is over an email goes out for everyone on 4th floor to help themselves. It is very easy to resist any of the food because it has been setting out since 12:15 and the message goes out at 1:40 or 2pm. Food poisoning anyone? That is how I pass by most of the food in our building. I do not know how long it has been on the counter so I pass by without touching.

I keep apples and walnuts at work along with bringing my lunches. It helps but sometimes the monkey just keeps jumping on my back.

I can completely relate to your dilemma. I live alone and nights that I get home late the last thing I feel like doing is cooking - that's when I snack! If I don't have something quick and easy to make then it's just about anything that looks good and isn't nailed down is fair game! Also if I don't keep my self busy and let myself get bored - not a good situation!!

It is hard always saying no and the eating out at lunch. I try to stay with healthier stuff but sometimes I indulge and I do not beat myself up over it. I just keep going.

It is hard when home I walk by and say it is only the dark chocolate berry you can have that or another couple of nuts. LOL It is hard, esp at night reading or watching TV. I have cut myself at 9 so that is good because by the time I get home at 430 or 5pm then work out (not in two weeks LOL), eat dinner, clean up kitchen, shower, I am close to 9pm anyway. I must get back to cross stitch then I will not be able to eat LOL.

I can totally relate to this! I work for a radio station, so there are weekly food drop offs from all kinds of food places! Not to mention all the chocolates and candy by the coffee machines and the cakes that get brought in for people's birthday's. I am constantly turning down food...but that is the win...I turn it down....I don't need it. Still gets annoying and tempting being asked all the time if I want food.

My office also has lots of temptations. First of all we have large departments, lots of stress, and many folks on flex schedules so its hard to find a time when someone isn't eating & sharing. Lots of birthdays, treats left in hallways and the break rooms, on top of filing cabinets, etc. When my mom visited she asked, is that all you folks in XXX do is eat? She couldn't believe we got any work done but we do. And this in a place where (I work in a county government office) our Board of Supervisor passed a ban on unhealthy snacks in the vending machines which is a joke as we still have plenty of stuff - baked chips, low salt items, trail mix, diet soda, etc. Trust me, the preservatives, artificial coloring, stabilizers & fake flavors are still in them so I try to simply tell myself "that isn't food so don't eat it." However, it is harder on payday when fresh bagels are brought in by HR - I think one is equal to four slices of bread and that's without any toppings!

So I too bring my own food. usually I drink a smoothie at home before leaving but I keep a protein powder drink mix at my desk in case I need a chocolate fix. Always healthy snacks - hummus and veggie strips, hard boiled eggs, string cheese & pretzels, (soy) yogurt, fruit. I plan my daily intake around what I can take to the office including lunch which is often soup or salad or a combo.

RUSSELL39 was right about lowering your carbs to get past the addiction which is what sugar and junk food cravings are. I'm doing so again beginning next week when I'm back at work full time.

It also helps to just picture all that stuff as advertised crap - not the medicine our bodies need to get healthy and stay that way. I recently was reminded that fat doesn't make us fat but sugar does. It's true, too. An avocado isn't going to kill you nor eating too many olives - both high fat foods right? But pastries & candy bars are.

Fortunately some folks at work are into their health so we bring in better snacks - popcorn, GORP, dried and fresh fruit trays, nuts. You might try that approach. See if you can get anyone else to also do so. Try speaking with management about the company encouraging a healthier office atmosphere - special food only once a month, or having it in a certain out of the way location. It will save them money in the long run by folks having less sick days, lower insurance rates, more energy to finish those short deadline projects. Many ins carriers have support staff who can send out emails and distribute other materials to encourage participation.

We have regular challenges to walk more, take ergonomic breaks, do stretches at our desk. Walking programs are to track how many miles across the state or country we can go in 10 weeks; how many minutes of exercise; what different forms of movement we can do in 12 weeks = like dancing, moving the lawn, shoveling snow, cleaning house, washing the car, swimming, skiing. That led to something further: Seeing ourco-wrkers outside of work.

Employees have had golfing tournaments, volleyball parties on the beach, softball games, cycling races, trained & run in marathons, hiked everywhere, played Frisbee golf matches, and joined bowling leagues. For our annual dept, outing where we review the new ordinances and codes, the boss got some one to come out and teach us how to play as a team building activity, and it also really got us moving plus was fun. Maybe you can be the leader and instigate some of the above. It might take a few different tries but I bet there are others who would welcome a change in the status quo. Sometimes you get to be the leader and stir things up.

I just discovered these new special k protein drinks. I drank about half a bottle, and it really did fill me up. I was not hungry for 6 hours. Good thing to bring to work when I need a sweet!

In reply to the original poster of this topic: I understand that. My HR manager keeps snack size candy in her office. Sometimes I will stop and grab something, because it just seems to pull me in and I feel like I need a pick-me-up. I am truly grateful when her door is closed, because I can't get in and my discipline is sometimes weak at work!

Some how I tend to want to eat junk when going to the movies. And I sometimes justify it by telling myself (wrongly of course) that it is cheaper to purchase prior to entering the movies .. argh :/

Inches Inches Inches lost are more important to me than pounds... :) well POUNDS ARE STILL IMPORTANT NOT AS MUCH AS INCHES THOSE SHOW THE REAL PROGRESS AND THAT IS A HEALTHIER WAY TO MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT!!

I somehow can bypass the junk at work, but at home in the evenings I tend to snack a lot.

I've been off work and traveling to various family members for the holidays for the last ten days and it looks like all the goodies have been eaten or deemed stale and thrown out. I don't see any left. I did get a lot of chocolate and cookies for Christmas but I will be eating the chocolate in moderation and freezing the cookies for later. I only baked on thing, which was date and walnut bread (kinda healthy) and put the leftovers in the freezer.

One friend back home gave me a big gift bag of cookies as a gift. I oohed and aahed over them to her and then shared them with my in-laws and left most of them with them.

My husband announced that he is back on the paleo diet as of today (again) and will be getting more exercise. We didn't get much in the cold weather over the holidays so now we will get back on track.

There is always food in our break room… I admit I like to bring things in every once in a while. I like to cook (especially for others). I work 13 hour days/nights so sometimes it is hard to resist. I bring my lunch on most days though, that helps a lot…. but if I go too long without lunch I tend to snack while I heat up my food. On the other hand, if my blood sugar is low, I have something on hand!
The hardest thing to turn down is someone who's brought in food for me or chocolate.

LOL, EJ I do the same thing and if I partake I get someone to split the muffin or whatever with me or I do not take any. That way I get a bite so I do not drive myself crazy and then over indulge later. There are times I can just walk away.

I love that when I do the cooking and baking I am doing it lighter, using Stevia. The once or twice I tried Agave I did not like it not sure what I am doing wrong, anyway I take my stuff to work and they never know they are eating lighter. LOL.

I just got all my banana bread polished off and all the pecan pie.

I am looking for a recipe for pecan pie that has the "creamy, cream cheese filling".
