I stopped drinking for almost 6 months prior to my wedding September 7th and I must say that it did help me lose weight. I don't usually drink a lot during the summer anyway, just now when it's football season with all the football parties and tailgating. This football season I've been trying to limit myself to drink water while at the tailgate, and if I do have a drink I keep it to just one major cocktail like vodka/tonic and then back to the water. I like wine too but I usually only drink it socially when I'm with my favorite wine sisters!

I suppose if you are "dieting" then you feel the need to deprive yourself until you fall off the wagon.

Committing to lifestyle changes means that you can enjoy in moderation.

I normally don't drink, but I can give some advice from people who have weaned themselves off of it. From what I have heard from family members who have lost weight is they switched to the lighter beers like Budlight or Coors Lite and also switched to red wine. In moderation red wine is actually good for you. I believe a decent serving is about 4oz.

I actually drink more now that I did when I was at my heaviest. The main reason is that I've developed a taste for wine, which I never cared for before. I'm a big proponent of small changes, so analyze where you're at now and pick one small change. Do you drink socially or alone? Maybe limit your drinking to just several days a week. Or drink less than you used to. There's no reason to give up alcohol completely if that's not something you're willing to do for the rest of your life.

There are some skinny versions of coctail mixes out there. Personally, I try to stay clear of artificial sweeteners, but if that's not one of your goals, you might find some pretty tasty options out there.

I like my "Happy Hour" and I refuse to totally give up something that I love because I'm trying to lose weight.. it would just be a recipe for failure because eventually I'd go back to my old habits.
So... my decision was to change my pattern rather than eliminate it..
- I seldom have anything but wine which is fairly low calorie.
- I have 1 glass instead of 2.
- I don't have one every day.
- If I 'indulge' with a Monte Cristo or more than one glass of wine, I just make sure I do a little extra workout, or walk a little more to compensate.

It's working for me, I've reached my first weight loss goal, and am now working towards another and still enjoying my happy hour.

Cheers..
Nyx

Does anyone have a time staying away from alcohol while they are dieting? What tips do you have for resisting the temptation??
