Actually, I haven't really thought about it, but I just finished stocking our freezer with a vast selection of slow cooker meals. All of them contain vegetables galore so maybe I'm okay and worrying about nothing. Typical me

I absolutely agree with a previous poster who said that veggies can really taste differently, depending on where you get them. The stuff in most grocery stores today is horrible--tasteless/bland, unripe or too old, bad texture, etc. Bleh. So, maybe try some from a farmer's market or a different store. Better yet, grow a veggie garden if you can (you can even grow stuff in pots if that's all you have room for). The stuff you can grow in a home garden tastes delicious--nothing like the yucky stuff you get at most stores.
Smoothies may also be a way to get in more veggies. I've heard that you can blend a bunch of spinach into a fruit smoothie and that you can't even taste the spinach. Also...put them into lasagnas, casseroles, etc. I make a broccoli mushroom chicken lasagna. It has a ton of broccoli (chopped fine) and an equal number of mushrooms. It's more veggies than anything else, really. My hubby loves it. LOL, I serve it with a side of veggies!
The problem with the drinks is that there is stuff added that you don't want (like too much sugar, sodium, and non-nutritive preservatives), and not any of the stuff that is the reason for eating veggies, specifically the fiber.
I completely sympathize with not liking veggies. I spend some of my calories on ways to make veggies palatable to me, like salad dressings or oil or butter (for cooked veggies). I also used to bury my veggies in cheese or tomato sauces. These are not ideal alternatives (and cheese doesn't work for me anymore, lol), but you really need the veggies. Some veggies are better cooked than raw, too.
Keep trying. It will be hard, but eventually you'll find some vegetables that you can tolerate, even if you never actually enjoy them.

I know I probably am a broken record when it comes to this, and trust me - I was so like you! I hardly ever ate veggies. And not a lot of fruit, either (I liked fruit; it was just too easy to grab something else where all I had to do was rip off a wrapper).
Past attempts at losing were torture and ultimately resulted in regaining the weight.
Not until I decided to just *try* liking veggies did it all come together. I am serious: the weight started to fall off. Holy crap! If only I had known about this before, I could have addressed my weight long ago! This truly has been like having the keys to the kingdom for me.
No one can force a person to eat - let alone like- veggies, so I won't even try.
I will tell you, though, that if you don't "like" veggies, maybe it's because you haven't had any tasty ones yet! Once I decided to try ramping up my veggies consumption, I decided to really figure out where the best tasting ones were and only get those. Heck, if I am going to do this, they'd better at least taste decent!
I can't tell you what a difference there is in something like, a zucchini, for example. Once my usual veggie place closed, I found Gelson's (I'm in So CA) seemed to offer the best tasting (better than Whole Foods, Sprouts, Henry's, Bristol Farms, etc).
A week ago, I ran out of zucchini and thought I'd just pick some up at Trader Joe's. Unbelievable how bitter tasting they were!! I ended up making a special trip to Gelson's and tossing out the Trader Joe's ones. Ditto for the bell peppers, snap peas. Mann's makes a great bagged snap pea -already de-stringed & have a sweet taste - vs some you can buy that have the strings attached, are so fibrous they are chewy and have a bitter taste! They also package snap peas for Stater Bros under a different name (but they taste as good!).
I don't know what happens with the icky tasting produce - maybe some growers just pick stuff too early - who knows? Ever have a home grown tomato vs a store bought? There's hardly any taste to most store bought tomatoes!
I am not a shopping snob; I don't care where I buy stuff as long as it tastes good!
Just keep this in mind if you don't like veggies. There is a marked difference in taste depending on where you buy them.
There's no WAY I'd eat 7-9 servings of fruit & veggies a day if they didn't taste good. I don't eat anything that doesn't taste good. My inner 2 yr old would simply have a fit!
If you can experiment with finding which veggies you like, and where the best place is to buy them, and then start eating a lot of them, your weight loss will probably be a LOT easier.
I eat a quart sz baggie stuffed with the following raw veggies every day: zucchini, yellow squash, red & orange bell peppers, hot-house cucumbers, sugar snap peas. Sometimes I add some slightly nuked yam slices (they are sweet!).
The problem with drinking caloric drinks is that it spikes your blood sugars. There is no fiber, and this will just be turned to glucose, which will result in Insulin release, which will result in fat storage, and lower blood sugar, resulting in you being hungry, and eating more.
I think fruit juice/ smoothies/ vegetable drinks are worse than pop, since we all think of pop as bad, so we limit them. However, we think of these as healthy drinks, even though they react in the body the same way.We tend to think that it is okay to drink 3 fruit juices, but a 12 oz pop would be seen as horrible. the person drinking pop would be better off though than the person drinking 18 ozs of V-8.
You need to address the issue of eating vegetables. I tend to eat mine in stir fries, or stews. I mix meat into the vegetables, and add some oil. This results in meaty flavored vegetables..lol. I am not a huge fan of vegetables, but find I can handle peas, tomato, onions, and mushrooms in this manner.
Instead of seeing the problem, and figuring out a way to fit 5 servings a day in, you have decided to drink them, removing all the fiber, probably much of the nutrients, and spiking your blood sugars. This just creates other problems.
Try 2 servings of fruit, and just 3 servings of vegetables. Have a mushroom/ Western omelette for breakfast, or a salad for lunch. Add a cup of tomatoes, or 1/2 a cup of onion to some chicken with oil, and serve on a bed of rice. Even 2 leaves of lettuce on your turkey sandwich is making progress.
If all else fails try some country vegetable soup over some pasta. This cuts down the sodium ( 0 in pasta ), but will give you some celery,beans, carrots, and potato. They have a heart healthy variety by Chunky soups, which is just 820 mg for the entire can. You get a beefy flavor too, so you aren't focusing on the vegetables.

I'm not sure but I THINK it is recommended that only 1 glass of this is counted as a fruit/vege, and also that the vege juice is better for you than the fruit ones. If I remember correctly, there are some that have more fibre than others, so if you check and compare the nutrition labels, choose the better options i.e. lower sodium/sugar/calorie and with more fibre.
There are other ways you can sneak veges into your meals. Make casseroles, and put in some pureed veges. My 'meat' portion often has nearly a serve of veges in, not because I am sneaking them in, but to help reduce calories and increase fibre. Gravies can have veges pureed into them, too.
Another way you can get the fruit/veges in is by making smoothies. Add some yoghurt if you want - they can be delicious.
hi doe, i am in no way an expert, only thing i can tel ya is, v-8 etc, can have alot of sodium, you can get a lower sodium variety, and also, a glass probably wouldn't hurt, but of course as you know , eating is better than drinking, i know its tough, i struggled with the veggie thing for a while, now i eat a fruit and veggie plate each day throughout the day, i have the veggies all cut up and ready, which makes it much easier, and grab an apple, orange etc here and there, good luck:)
Would clamato juice or V-8 be an acceptable alternative to eating veggies? I cannot stick to regularly adding veggies of any sort to my eating plan. A few with hummus make it into my body and the obligatory spinach salad but that's only with utmost reluctance!
