I started a calorie restriction diet here on SP on January 21st at 173.9. My current weight is 168.9. My daily caloric range up until last week has been between 1200 & 1700. To date I have not been able to break past the 5 lb. loss (up & down, up & down). Last week in desperation I started a modified fasting (PSMF) regimen, restricting my calories to around 800 in hopes of breaking through this, but I am still stuck! My exercise has been limited due to a very painful knee issue, but I am walking a few days a week.
Anyone have any experience of suggestions to get past this?

I hit a 9 month (seriously) plateau after losing 55 pounds. Didn't think I could lose more. Regained 14 of those 55 pounds after reaching a reset goal weight. Now, I've lost those 14 pounds and 9 more without trying. My original goal weight of 125 is now in sight! NEVER GIVE UP!

Whenever I hit a plateau, I simply change things up - with both my diet and my exercise.
If my daily calorie range is say 1200-1500 daily, one day, I'll eat at the low end of the range; the next day I'll eat at the high end. Our bodies get used to routine and can become "stuck" (a/k/a a plateau).
The same holds true with exercise. Our body gets used to doing the same old thing in the same old way. Variety fixes it. Add some incline, try a different type of exercise, exercise more, exercise less, for longer or for shorter periods of time ... there are lots of ways to change up both diet and exercise.
I TOTALLY agree with the prior poster about the exercise. Not only does inactivity become an issue, but you are limiting yourself in ways to change things up with you hit a plateau.
It's impossible for anyone to give you any useful advice with so little information. We'll need to know at least:
Age Height Current weight Average calorie intake Activity level What makes you think you're at a plateau? How long did it take you to lose the first 20 pounds? How long has it been since your weight changed?
Just guessing from your ticker and what you've told us, I would guess that you're not at a plateau; you've just reached the top of the mountain and it's flat. The last 5 pounds are frankly not important for your health, so your body thinks the weight loss job is done. That doesn't mean that you can't or shouldn't lose a little more, but it does mean that it's not going to follow the same "rules" that work when you're actually, clinically overweight. For most people, the last 5-10 pounds take at least as long to lose as the previous 20-30. At this point, you generally need to change your focus away from weight loss and onto general health, because really you're at maintenance.
When you say "though diet alone," does that mean you haven't been exercising at all? If that's the case, start walking an hour a day while keeping your calorie intake constant and eating more vegetables, and you'll probably take off those last 5 pounds by Valentine's Day. Even if you don't, you'll be far healthier. Inactivity is a far bigger health issue than an extra 5-10 pounds.
This post is seeking advice from those who have had success with their dieting and exercise regimen and have ran into a plateau at some point. I've successfully lost 20 lbs with dieting alone! Now I feel as though I have plateaued with my weight. I'm having a hard time losing that last 5 lbs for my goal.
Any advice would be much appreciated! I'd love to hear opinions from others who have had this issue and what worked for them.
