Apples have been a regular part of my diet for the last 5 years or so. Not only do they keep in the refrigerator for days, they keep for weeks. Granted, I normally consume them in a few days, but at times I have bought large bunches and kept them for 2-3 weeks successfully.

Leaving them in the frig can cause other produce to ripen quickly, then spoil. I buy what I plan to eat immediately and store them on the counter with foods I WANT to ripen, like those rock hard pears. If I have to refrigerate them, I wrap them in an air tight baggie. Try to use them ASAP.

I try not to put them in the fridge instead I put them I put them in a sack and leave it in the breezeway. Besides when I buy them from a store (the others are from friend's apple trees) they don't last for very long...my kids eat them up emoticon .

I'd agree that apples should keep more than 7 days in the fridge. I'll ask our Content folks to check it out in case it's a typo.

The article on keeping fruits & veggies fresh contains a chart that shows whether to refrigerate or store fruits & veggies on the counter. In both the columns for refrigerate and counter, apples are shown with the less than symbol (which is not printable here because someone's program thinks it is html and makes one rewrite).

Why is the chart chart saying less than for both cases? Apples have a fairly long keep time in general, but they do degrade as time marches on.

Is this a typo or intended?

If intended, what is the point of less than 7 days in both cases?
