I avoid soy as much as possible. It binds some essential nutrients, preventing their uptake. I spend too much on supplements to just excrete them.

Whenever I see a clinical trial I want to know who paid for the trial. Think again. Research your research.

I prefer organic whey protein. It may be a little more difficult to find, but you're avoiding GMO soy and the cows won't have been fed GMO grains, either. That is important to me (avoiding GMO).

What about adding a piece of chicken, fish, or an egg to one of your meals?

Regarding thyroid function and soy intake:

The results of over 10 clinical trials demonstrate that soy foods and soy isoflavones have little or no effect on thryoid function in healthy adults. However, it has been discovered that individuals taking synthetic thyroid hormone medication may require about a 25% higher dosage of medication if they consume soy foods. Researchers have suggested that the increase in this medication requirement is due to an increase in the medication being excreted in the stool and/or a reduction in medication absorption—not due to a direct effect on the function of the thyroid.

Soy can interfere with thyroid function so if you are being treated for thyroid issues then I would go with the whey.

Honestly, either is going to help boost your protein, both are safe and it comes down to personal choice.

Just be sure to know the nutritionals, so you can track and record accurately

Whey protein comes from Milk
Soy protein comes from soybeans

So if you have an allergy to one of these foods---that should influence your choice.
Some women undergoing breast cancer treatment may have to follow more strict intake guidelines regarding soy.
Other than that---it comes down to personal choice. Like I already said: "both are safe"

If the whey was whey isolate then I would go for that. I am not a huge fan of consuming soy on a regular basis. Also check on their website to see what the calorie difference is.

Here is a helpful article from LiveStrong: www.livestrong.com/article/17876-soy-prote

Weight loss is primarily determined by calories out vs. calories in, so take a look at your overall calorie consumption along with macronutrients, such as protein.

Hi all,

I love drinking Jamba Juice all fruit smoothies, but I have been lacking a bit of protein in my diet, so I thought maybe adding a boost of protein in the smoothies would be a good way to get that extra bit. However, they offer two options: soy and whey. I don't know what the difference is between them or which one I should choose. I am currently trying to lose weight, if that has any influence on which to choose. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Thanks! emoticon
