It is definitely enlightening tracking food. It is especially jaw-dropping learning the caloric content of foods in restaurants. There are times that I look foods up that I used to eat often and wonder how I wasn't heavier than I was!

It has taken a little time to get used to, as not always having the time, but the like everything is making the time, as it has been a real eye opener for me, especially with the size of my portions. So now I can still eat healthy but with foods that fill me up.

Tracking really helped me. What I thought was a serving of ice cream was really 1 1/2 -2 servings. I didn't realize how many calories of flavored cream and sugar I was putting in my coffee. I also used to eat a lot of extra calories by grazing-a few cookies when making the kids lunch, a handful of goldfish when getting them a snack. Those calories added up. I was shocked at how many calories I was eating when I looked up some chain restaurant meals.

Knowledge is power!

I agree! This was such a revelation for me when I first started 7 months ago. No wonder I felt tired and weak most days - I was giving my body complete crap to work with most of the time. High carb, low protein was how I used to eat and I was constantly crashing from all of those sugar rushes. It was also so eye opening to start looking up the nutrition for chain restaurants. It's REALLY hard to tell if the salad or the filet is the best choice unless you look at the nutrition facts - appetizers can be half of your daily calories (and most of the time they aren't THAT good!). It's crazy. Now, I still go out, but I'd rather pick a lower calorie entree option, skip the appetizer and have a glass or two of wine - it's just all about the choices. Good luck to you in your journey!

Using the nutrition tracker is a real eye opener. It let me see just how many empty calories I was consuming, just how little real food I was eating. Also with measuring the food instead of eyeballing only showed that my eyes didn't have a clue on portion sizes.
