Thanks to all for your suggestions. I couldn't resist the fish tacos with shredded cabbage & cilantro sauce. The two tacos were small & I took off most of the sauce so, even though fish was covered in panko crumbs, it still didn't bring me above my goals except in sodium. They were so good I wasn't even tempted to touch the chips & salsa :-) Not something I'd eat often but, for a treat, I don't think it was too off the rails.

If you like the fish tacos, you could ask for grilled instead of fried fish and whatever sauce or cheese on the side. Grilled fish tacos would not be bad. Maybe eat half or 1/3 instead of all, or eat them all if you budget for it. If they don't have nutrition posted, you can look up similar dishes at similar restaurants to get an idea.
Falafel could be an ok choice, but those are often deep fried as well. You can eat burgers as well if you like them, just mind the size (1/2 lb burgers are not a great idea when trying to lose or maintain weight, but 1/4 lb or less can be manageable) and the toppings.

Well of that list, you'll probably get the best satisfaction-combined-with-reasonable-calorie-count from the fisherman's stew - assuming it is more of a broth stew and not laden with cream and potatoes.... falafal is a good choice too. I'd avoid the fish tacos for the exact reason you describe (battered deep fried and bet-you-can't-eat-just-one). You could consider a burger (they are often not a bad choice, if you go easy/skip on the mayo, cheese, bacon, and sub out the fries for a salad or soup). That's a pretty eclectic menu! Enjoy your lunch.

They have a fairly limited menu: Aside from chicken sandwiches & salads, they offer Fish Tacos, Fish Sandwich, BLT, Steak & Cheese, Reuben, Grilled Cheese, Falafel, Meatball Sandwich, Burgers, Fisherman’s Stew, Mac n’ Cheese & Chicken Quesadilla.

My personal choice would be the fish tacos but the fish is breaded & I like them so much I know I'd end up eating more than one. So...fisherman's stew or falafel? I know the quesadilla would be ok but not crazy about it without a good dose of sour cream :-)

Thanks for the reminder about portions.

Would help if you told us the restaurant (or type of restaurant) you're going to.

Basically you can eat whatever you want. Just watch the portion sizes, as restaurants tend to give you two (or three) times as many calories as you need or desire on any given plate of food.

If it's a restaurant where you can post a link to their online menu, post it, and I'm sure there will be people here that can tell you which items are the "good choices" and which to avoid. Most restaurants will have a few reasonable options... and it sure doesn't have to be limited to chicken!

I'm going to be having lunch with some friends tomorrow. First time eating out since starting this program a week ago. I'm really tired of chicken sandwiches & omelettes & can't eat salads because of gastro conditions. What can I order??
