Low carb works because you get into ketosis, and if you up your carbs enough, then you get kicked out of it. So you are going along well, without cravings, and losing weight, and voluntarily choose to stop it and reverse the effects? Why would you want to have cravings, and not lose any weight? Getting past the first few days is hard for some people, and I don't understand why you would want to repeat that over and over.

This would be akin to calorie cycling, which is what many people do.. they eat good for 3-4 days , and then have a huge calorie day, eating sweets, and Taco bell, or pizza. THAT doesn't work either.

Pick a level of carbs that is acceptable, and helps you lose steadily, without any cravings, and stick to it. If you cut out sugar, and processed carbs, and focus on vegetables, you may be able to have quite a high allotment of carbs. The quality of the carbs you eat matter as much as the quantity.

I think carb cycling sound incredibly complicated.

Losing and maintaining a healthy weight is actually very simple.

Eat real whole foods.

Avoid food additives and preservatives.

And don't eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn't recognize as food.

Yes. I did Tom Venuto's middle of the road, plan. 3 days at 30% and 1 refeed day at 50%.

It destroyed me. I tried it for a month before I had to give up. I was miserable, in a brain fog, fatigued, my workouts greatly suffered and I started experiencing dead, heavy legs and could barely pick myself off the couch when I'm usually quite energetic. It eventually led to uncontrollable binge eating on carbs. It took about 3 weeks to fully recover. I was choosing the *right* carbs, lots of veg and low GI fruit. The only starchy carb I ate was whole grain oats and occasionally, a small serving of sweet potato.

Sooooo not worth it. I personally am at my peak on a steady intake of 40-45% carbs. It's strange because my "average" worked out to be about that while doing this moderate version of carb cycling but it still killed me. I can't believe the repercussions just by dropping my carbs 3 days at a time.

I know bodybuilders often use it to reach an ultra low body fat % before competition and it works for them but the majority only do it for a short period of time, about 6-8 weeks prior to a competition. Kudos to them.

Take your focus off the Marshmallow.

"Toning" is marketing muscles to women who are afraid if they pick up a barbell, they'll leave the gym looking like She-Hulk. If you don't want to get bulky, lift heavy!

I can bench Nicole Richie, eat more than she does in a day before noon, I have a good 20 lbs on her but could still wear her pants.

Has anyone tried carb cycling? What plan do you use? Does it work for weight loss and maintenance?
