My late husband was a serious alcoholic. I am not suggesting that the OP is. What I will say, tho', is that the jokes like that made about the 40% CAN cause an alcoholic to think that it is a good idea to just let go of ONE of the alcohols but drink more of the other. This is actually what my hubby did at one stage. It still had dire consequences for him - health and financially re accidents/job etc. It didn't alter the fact that he was still relying on alcohol.

Just my two-cent's worth!

LIRPAS1976, I didn't call anyone names. I haven't attacked anyone. Why can't I comment when people make tasteless "jokes" that aren't funny? I'm permitted to comment.

After all, isn't it just hilarious when people crack jokes about cancer? "Hee, I've screwed more women than breast cancer."

I don't think it's funny. I don't have to pretend it is. I don't need to "chill out." I'm just unimpressed with his humor.

Snide comments about high school, however, are unnecessary and insulting. Perhaps I'm not the one who needs to "chill out."

Good for you, Songfit4life! Calories in wine adds up fast.. I haven't given mine up completely, but I am measuring and watching my intake closely, as i don't want to break my calorie or carbohydrate budget.

As for unwinding I will second the hot tea! And also there is this short 15 minute qi gong routine in the fitness videos here on SP that always helps me chill out.

songfit4life, I say GREAT job! That shows dedication! If that is what you want to do, then I say good for you! And to the people who choose to drink everyday or every so often good for them too! Dragonchild you really need to chill out. Why act so rude to the guy making jokes? Remember to each their own, and if it differs from your choices, so what! Jeez, what is this highschool?

"Wow, I would've reworded the deal to give up alcoholic drinks with 40% or greater proof.. making wine perfectly acceptable.. hahahahaha "

Yes, because it's just hilarious when you're so unable to give up drinking that you have to make bargains to keep from having to give it up.

I agree with the others.
If you're using Wine as a stress relief - it's possible that it was a good idea to take a break from it before it becomes your only outlet.

Best wishes, and keep up the good work that you've so far accomplished.

Congratulations on having given it up for a month - in time you might see that it was worth it on a number of fronts, one of which is the calorie content.

It sounds to me like you need to learn some other relaxation technique - taking 5 minutes out to concentrate on your breathing and empty your mind of stressors is a good one, and doesn't cost money OR calories!

Try some hot tea such as green or herbal. Try a coffee drink, with not too much sugar added. Try flavored carbonated waters with no added sugars. Try fermented grape juice with no alc. content. Try a bottle of non-alcoholic beer. Try a sports drink.

Good luck! You can hold out if you really try! I had two different stretches where I did not drink alcoholic beverages: one for 10 years and one for 3 years. Go for it!

I made a bet with a friend... he gives up soda and I give up alcohol... it's been over a month and it feels like a year... I would really like a glass of wine... REALLY... Wine relaxes me at night after a day of stress from kids...
