Ack, Russell --- if I had any leanings towards low carb, you just got rid of them: a life without popcorn is not a life I want to live!
Although I actually don't mind plain air-popped popcorn, I do prefer it with butter (1/2 Tbsp for 3 cups) and salt, or with other seasonings. It fits in to all of my ranges, gives me a great blast of insoluble fibre, and I simply enjoy nibbling at it --- so I have it almost every evening. As has been mentioned, fat is a necessary part of your nutrition, so there's nothing wrong with using real butter in moderate amounts.
Afraid of a colonoscopy? Believe me - they are much less frightening than surgery and chemotherapy.
Colonoscopies allow polyps to be removed before they can become cancer, or let cancers be found before they are too widespread. If you are 50 or older, or have any symptoms, please don't let fear stop you from covering your butt.
I didn't hear anything about being on low carb, so if that is not an issue then it should not be a problem.
If by some chance you ARE on low carb, then popcorn would not be allowed. It is one of the misconceptions out there. I can't eat corn or beets, or carrots on low carb. Sometimes it is about the types of carbs, not the quantity. So while green beans might be limited by your daily allotment of carbs, and your limit on how many you can eat without being nauseous, there are carbs that you can't have at all, like ice cream, or popcorn, or corn. So 10 cups of green beans might be okay, but 3 pieces of popcorn may ruin your entire low carb diet. It isn't just about counting the total grams of carbs. If that was true, you could have ice cream for breakfast, and eat meat for the rest of the day. If you do this, you will lose nothing, and continue to have cravings.
I am 99% sure though, that the OP is not on low carb. She eats carrots. So popcorn is most likely fine. I don't understand what is wrong with butter though as long as it is in moderation. The recommended diet is 30% fat, so as long as you don't eat a lot of butter, why not put some on your popcorn, and cut fat somewhere else? If I remember correctly, plain popcorn tastes horrible.
