I am really sorry to hear of your sister's diagnosis and your son's friend's father. I am thinking of you all at this time.
One thing that you MIGHT find helpful, is to have on hand some single-serve containers of Ensure or Fortesip. That way if you are in a situation where you need something, you can easily have that and know that you are getting the nutrients that you need.
When my husband was in hospital (he had LOTS of admissions for a week or two at a time) I would take little bags of pieces of apple and/or pear (easier to nibble on a piece rather than eat the whole thing and need more later), a little bag with a few almonds, and 2-3 dried figs. Sometimes I would put a pot of yoghurt in, too. For me, those were the foods I found the easiest to tolerate when needed, but wasn't really feeling like food. I also always have a High Fibre Bar in my bag for emergencies wherever I am, whenever I need it.
Take care, and BIG hugs,
