I never used to eat breakfast, eating in the morning used to make me feel sick, but I started just forcing myself to do it, small things at first like a banana or one slice of toast and after about a month I was actually hungry and looking forward to breakfast when I woke up. It really makes a huge difference to my energy levels, I used to drag myself around wishing I could go back to bed for hours after I had woken up, now I'm bouncing around all over the place at 6am and I don't get as hungry for the rest of the day :)

I know lots of people who don't eat breakfast and are radiantly healthy.

But that's not me! LOL! Breakfast is my favorite. emoticon

I don't eat breakfast and I don't even like traditional breakfast food very much. I tried to force myself to eat breakfast within an hour of rising since that's what you're "supposed to do", and it just left me hungrier later in the day. This was a breakfast that included 25 grams of protein! The 5-6 small meals thing just does not work for me.

I don't eat until about 9:30 (I get up at 5 and workout at 7) and it's not breakfast food. Today my "breakfast" was tuna on a salad and a banana.

Like Lena Dunham said on "Girls" a few weeks ago:

I'm never hungry for breakfast. But when I eat breakfast, I never regret it! I can understand how studies show that it benefits weight loss - your less ravenous for lunch.

I hate to eat breakfast. I love breakfast but not for hours after I have woken up. After I drink my coffee I don't want to eat. I know how important it is to have something in my stomach within the first hour of waking so that's on my goal board but it's very difficult. Today I forced 3 spoonfuls of yogurt down but I just couldn't finish the cup. emoticon

@ MINISTUDIO_2: I actually would love to have a banana on the way to work, but I'm allergic to them. Lol. This week I've been doing my fall back of V8 and string cheese during the commute, but I'm trying really hard to psych myself up to get up 30-45 min. earlier so I can eat something hot before work (esp. with cold weather coming.) I'm getting just about 7 hrs sleep with my current schedule, so if I do that, I'll be at 6.5 hrs of sleep for a 12.5 hr night shift. Not sure it's gonna work (I already hate to getting out of my warm bed if it's cold out!) :-) But I'm going to try and see how it goes.

I eat extremely light for breakfast, like less than 200 calories. But I make sure those 200 calories are very nutrient rich. I just made a sparkrecipe that was crustless spinach quiche. I pop 2 in the microwave in the morning and I'm out the door. They are pretty light and fluffy and only 147 calories.

Yes! I almost gag on food if I eat too early. I will eat a banana with my vitamins & coffee every morning before I get on the treadmill...but I rarely eat a full breakfast before 11 a.m.

I definitely can't eat right away so usually I take a breakfast bar and eat it at work about 9:30 or so. Sometimes I just don't feel like it, though, so skip. Doesn't seem to make too much difference if I do or don't eat hunger-wise.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

I have to force myself to eat breakfast. I get up at 5:30 am because that's when my SO gets up to go to work. I usually have a cup of coffee around 6 when I get the kids up to get ready for school. However, even getting up as early as I do, I'm usually not hungry until about 1 pm! I am a stay at home mom/college student so I have no excuses for not eating breakfast, other than I just really don't want to. I know I need that first meal to jump start my metabolism each day, plus I usually work out around 10-11 am and I know my body needs fuel for that. So lately I have been trying to have an advocare shake in the mornings as my compromise to eating breakfast. :)

I'm confused when people say they don't have time to eat breakfast.

My breakfast most mornings is a whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter and a piece of fruit. You really don't have less than 2 minutes to throw an english muffin (toast or whatever) in the toaster, spread some pb and grab a fruit? This breakfast gives you whole grains, fruit (both containing fiber) and a protein source w/ healthy fats.

Or you don't have time to make a smoothie the night before and drink it on your way to work? You don't have time ONE day a week to make up a large pot of steel cut oats? Heat up a bowl in the morning for 1.5 minutes and add cinnamon, fruit, nuts, whatever...it's so fast!

I honestly can't buy into anyone saying they don't have time. My husband and I both work full time jobs (NOT from home), opposite shifts, he is attending school full time, we have a 2 year old, a 4 month old who I exclusively breastfeed and who is a horrible sleeper...and we DON'T use daycare except for family coming 3x/week so I don't "have other people raising my kids."

My mornings are packed with a shower, hair, make-up, washing and sanitizing bottles & my pump parts from the night before, making sure the breastmilk is put in freezer bags, making sure he has breastmilk thawed and ready and it's fresh, washing dishes, putting laundry in, wiping counters, cleaning the kitchen, feeding the dogs and letting them out, tidying up the house if I missed anything the night before, usually washing parts of our bathrooms. Sometimes my kids sleep through this, but on mornings like today, both kids were up so then it also includes making sure both are changed and dressed, making sure my daughter has breakfast, and of course keeping an eye on them throughout everything else I'm doing. Then my son is very "needy" and usually requests to be held the whole time, so this is all happening one handed and moving him from room to room with me. I wake at 6:10a and am at work for 8a. I usually snuggle with my baby until 6:25 or 6:30 or so, then get out of bed to do all of that. My commute is really only about 5 minutes so I leave at 7:50a. That gives me 80 minutes to do all of that and more (those were just the things I'm thinking of off the top of my head). I may also prepare my husband's lunch for when he's at school or work and make him breakfast too since he runs in from a 12 hour shift, takes a 5 minute shower and gathers his school stuff, then leave for school for 8 hours. (Edit: Oh, AND I breastfeed my son before I leave for work, so add in however long that takes...)

ALL the while, I still get breakfast. Now, I may have to eat it on the way to work or eat it the first few minutes at work, but I'm eating it and I never skip. Ever. Granted, this isn't the "optimal" way to go about eating a meal as it should be slow and relaxed, but eating rushed is better than nothing at all.

...Yeah, so don't tell me you don't have time to eat breakfast.

I usually have no issues eating at any time - including breakfast. But if for some reason on any given morning I don't feel like eating, I pack my breakfast in my work lunch bag. By the time I get to work I'm typically hungry and I eat it then.

Eating breakfast is important - but I don't think you need to force it down immediately after you get up if you're not hungry - as long as you do eat breakfast at some point in the morning.

I love breakfast but I'm a bit strange. I'm up 3:30-4:00, water, a coffee and some fruit then a workout with a shower and shave at 6, hit the kitchen to make lunch so by the time I'm to breakfast at 6:30 I've been up and active for hours. A lot different from getting up, grab and go. My go-to breakfast is 1 cup Cheerios, 1/2 cup milk, peanut butter and turkey bacon on a slice of toast. It's 337 calories with a good balance of nutrition so between that and a workout pumping the endorphins I'm ready to face the day.

I dont like eating breakfast. I'm up early and on the go, by the time I get hungry its about 10am so I'll have fruit or a protein bar. Also, if I do eat breakfast I am still hungry at 10 or so, it does not keep me full all day. Research is great but I've found listening to my body is better.

I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the role it plays in my health and goals, however I can't change the lack of appetite in the mornings, so I usually just have a protein shake or Greek yogurt and fruit.

I emoticon breakfast every day as it starts my day off right! The easy things I eat on my busy days are emoticon with granola cereal and/or honey, grilled emoticon, made with my toaster and heat up in the microwave, 1/2 cinnamon bagel with low-fat cream emoticon, and/or a boiled emoticon, including the cup of cereals that you can purchase in the grocery store and I keep cartons of low-fat or soy emoticon at work for those types of days. I drink emoticon with every meal. Hope this helps as you'll find things that are convenient and healthy to start your day off as well! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I like the coffee maker at my work place better than the one at home, so I just wait until I get to work to have any breakfast. Then I bring a small container of egg whites (1/3 cup) with a few sprinkles of low fat cheddar cheese, pop that into the microwave (be sure it's not covered) and cook it for 10-15 seconds. (You'll have to practice to get the right time.) That gives me a protein breakfast to get me through till lunch. (We also have a toaster, so sometimes I make a piece of toast as well.)

Love eggs, love good coffee, so I'm all set.

You all should check out the 30 days of fit food challenge that was posted Sep 26th. Lots of good ideas for light healthy breakfast foods.

I eat before I leave the house every morning at 5:15 a.m. I don't like to eat as soon as I get up. I have one cup of coffee, wait like 30 minutes, then have something light to hold me until my 10:00 break, then I have a snack. Sometimes I eat my lunch at break and have a snack at lunch.

If your going to read and quote on line articles please make sure it's a reliable source. Don't forget anyone can post anything on the internet.

Don't forget basic nutrition, particularly if you are diabetic. If you eat carbs or sugars, eating a protein will help your body metabolize them slower and prevent sugar spikes and drops.

I avoid the usual 2 to 3 thousand calorie breakfasts I used to have. The syntrax nectar cappachino latte leaves me satisfied. It is a protein drink and says not for weight loss. The drink can be made with water or milk. I use water. It has no caffeine but smells great.

I'm not a breakfast eater either. I try to drink a protein shake before I work out (otherwise I feel like i'll PASS out!) and then eat a light breakfast when I probably should be eating my snack. After that I'm good to go for the remainder of the day.

I don't like eating in the morning usually. I also find that I cramp up if I have eaten almost anything within a few hours of working out intensely. I make a milkshake with a half cup of low fat frozen yogurt and a cup of milk, along with fruit, cocoa powder or flavour extracts (and protein powder sometimes.) A banana and fat free flavoured Greek yogurt with a few tbsps of hemp seeds puts something in my stomach without having discomfort too.

I myself had a really hard time eating all the food that was required for the day. this included eating breakfast in the morning too. I started to exercise in the morning just walking for 30 minutes to get my metabolism going for the day. Now, I can eat all day long throughout the day to accomplish what I am suppose to eat. I have a really hard time staying focused and making myself stick to the plan...but I am my own worst enemy on not doing following through. So, I have made it appoint to put some amazing fitness apps on my facebook to encourage myself. I hope this suggestion helps you out.

Honestly my breakfasts are not that big. Rarely I'll have a bowl of steel cut oats but for the most part a piece of cheese will work for me. Some weeks I'll have a wedge of laughing cow cheese and arnold bread.

Breakfast = "Breaking fast"

You need just enough to get your body's metabolism going. Don't have to eat a lot.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

I think eating two hours after you get up can still be considered breakfast. I take something portable with me to work - sometimes I eat it in the car on the way there, sometimes later at my desk. On the weekends it's just whenever I get around to it.

I'm really not a breakfast eater. I'm more of a brunch eater. I know I need to eat breakfast and have so many hours between breakfast and lunch so I force myself to have something. Preferably something healthy. It seems like it takes me forever to finish it.

I think everyone is different. If I'm getting my nutrients and appropriate amount of calories in the day and still losing weight, then I don't think breakfast's a must. If it's not broke, don't fix it!

Breakfast, or at least eating when I get up, is really a challenge for me for a couple reasons:

1. I work nights, 12 hour shifts, so when I get off in the morning I have to go right back to work that night. Getting up earlier to eat before cuts me too short on sleep.
2. My doc just started me on thyroid medication, and that has to be taken 1 hour before I can eat anything. So I take it right when I get up, but by the time that hour passes I'm driving to work. As soon as I get to work, I have to hit the floor running and it's sometimes several hours before I can eat anything. (Busy hospital.)
3. I've never liked traditional breakfast foods, and have always eaten more lunch/dinner style foods for breakfast. Most of those require cooking and/or prep time. I tried, but I have yet to find a protein bar, cereal bar, nutrition shake, or any other grab-n-go kind of food that I like.

I think I'm going to have to go back to keeping a big jug of V8 handy. Back when I first lost my weight and was keeping it off, a glass of V8 with hot sauce in it and a piece of string cheese was my quick fix. It was easier then because I worked 8 hours like normal ppl. Now with 12.5-hr shifts and the commute, my work day is about 14 hrs--doesn't leave time for much else.

Go ahead and laugh at life; you can bet life is laughing at you.

I hate breakfast foods. So I kept experimenting and figured out that I can drink an Ensure Nutritional Drink. Its a complete meal and comes in all flavors (even butter pecan). They're only 8 oz so its not hard to drink right down and it actually helps my digestive tract. Anyway, good luck on finding something that works for you.

I also have become so used to my cuppa coffee and nothing else in the morning. I battle to eat anything before about 9 or 10. Would love to do away with the coffee but its just filling enough and not TOO filling either for that hour of the morning.

I'm still not real big on breakfast but I am doing much better since joining SparkPeople. Some of my usual options are eggs made in a variety of ways. A handful of almonds and sunflower seeds does the job when I haven't cooked or don't feel like anything else. I'll add cut veggies or a little fruit for variety. I try to watch out for anything that might spike my sugar levels to high.

Someone told me once that you need to eat within the first hour after you wake up in order to really jumpstart your metabolism. Protein shake, a banana, granola bar, etc. Those things are great too, because they can be readily available for you and you can eat or drink them while you are getting ready.

I keep a box of oatmeal packets (Quaker's Weight Control Oatmeal... Yum!) in my desk. The first thing I do when I walk in is make my oatmeal. Because I'm usually a few minutes early, I have just enough time to make that, call my husband to say good morning, and eat something. If one packet of oatmeal just isn't going to cut it until lunch, I'll either add fruit or eat fruit somewhere in between those two meals.

Shell, you might try to grab a handful of various nuts on your way out in the morning. A mix almonds and walnuts is my staple as I can munch on them on the drive into work. I can also keep them nearby if I don't finish them. Just an idea for quality calories.

My problem is that I usually don't have time to eat breakfast before I have to leave home to get to work in the morning. And the first thing I do when I get to work is clean for 30-60. I usually don't get my breakfast in until about 9 or 9:30 and since I am at work it is only a granola bar or something. I have been trying to give my self a little extra time in the morning though. I ate breakfast before work everyday this week so far!

I am not hungry when I first get up and I also have to wait an hour to eat after taking my thyroid medication. Ain't start my day with 16 ounces of water and coffee and one or two hours later I am hungry.

I eat one ounce of really good cheese, the real stuff not low fat and an apple or other fruit. It is a light meal that keeps me full till lunch. I have enough energy to get some walking in before lunch.

I think a lot of people think that breakfast has to be "Breakfast Foods" and that might not be what you feel like eating.

Try thinking outside the box and eat non breakfast foods. Half a tuna sandwich and fruit or even some soup. When I lived in Japan they ate soba noodle soup or other non breakfast foods. We had some exchange students stay with us for a week and they had never seen cereal lol! They went crazy!

Another favorite of mine is to crisp a corn tortilla in the oven. I put 1/4 cup vegetarian refried beans on top with a fried egg and a piece of 2% sharp american cheese. Put back in the oven for a few minutes and serve with salsa or other hot sauce of your choice

Crisp two corn tortillas top with pizza sauce and devise 1/3 mozzarella cheese between the two. Put back in oven until cheese melts and you have pizza!

I do WW and have lost over 60 pounds eating this way

I struggled with eating breakfast for the longest time. My stomach isn't quite ready for food at 6 in the morning so I usually wait until 9 or so. I also have tried different and less traditional breakfast foods. Sandwiches or fruit only. I have a hard time stomaching protein early so eggs and most meat are out. Most days I have a peanut butter sandwich with a piece of fruit. I have also started making smoothies. Works for me.

Find what works for you. Don't skip! A little something really makes a difference.

I used to have issues eating in the morning...back when I was just skipping breakfast and my metabolism was slow.

Think of it this way, you just went all night without eating so you metabolism has slowed down during your sleep period. It is still just as slow when you wake up in the morning. You need food to get things going again. If you let it remain slow by not eating, that's just it, it will continue to be slower. Getting a little something to eat, helps wake your body up and gets everything going.

I'd work into it slowly. Don't sit down to a "biggest meal of the day" breakfast. Just add a little bit at a time until you feel you're getting an adequate amount of calories in the morning.

I also hear people talk about feeling hungrier by lunch when they DO eat breakfast vs not. This is good! This means your metabolism is faster than the non-breakfast days. People get so concerned about that, but it's a good thing!

Like many of you I am just not hungry and actually a little nauseated at the thought of food when I first get up. I work a rotating schedule so every two months my eating/sleeping schedule changes also throwing me off even more with that first meal of the day. I too like coffee when I am getting up and moving around. When I work swing shift I seem to be able to have a real breakfast, but usually several hours after being awake, having coffee and exercising. When I work days ( I am so not a morning person) I really struggle. One of the products I have been turned on to is the Odwalla Protein Monster drinks. I can grab one and go. I usually pair it with some kind of cereal bar such as a Nutrigrain, Kind Bar or Quaker Oatmeal Medley bars. The Odwalla protein drinks do pack a lot of calories, but they seem to satisfy more than some of the other brands and taste far better than some of the others I have tried.

l-medleys/cherry-pistachio.aspx
www.kindsnacks.com/store#All-Bars

Some of my favorite breakfast meals when I am not rushed are:
-Grits with a Sargentos pepper jack cheese stick melted in and a fried egg and V8 juice to drink
-banana & almond buter in an Oroweat thin pocket with a glass of milk and 2 slices of turkey bacon
-2 hard boiled eggs and a 100 calorie english muffin with V8 juice
-scrambled eggs with Healthy ones turkey, laughing cow swiss cheese wedge and spinich folded in add a Thomas mini bagel at 100 calories and coffee to drink
-cream of wheat with a banana, blueberries and honey Add a glass of milk and or a 100 calorie Yoplait greek yogurt

Good Morning to you, whenever that may be and happy eating!!

Just another way at looking at things -
Technically , breakfast is "breaking a fast". So that implies that the first meal or snack eaten after waking for a new day, after fasting during sleeping, is breakfast.
So unless you haven't eaten all day, you have had breakfast.

Myself, I find I do best when I have a snack within an hour after waking, then have a more substantial meal a few hours later.

I have always read, that you should not skip meals, because it leads to overeating. I plan
my meals out for the whole day. I get everything put together and then I just eat something
when I am feeling hungry. That has worked for me. I usually make a Strawberry Smoothie,
1 cup of Silk Soy Milk Vanilla , 1 cup of Frozen Strawberry Slices, then add 1-2 tablespoon of
Splenda to it. It tastes like a strawberry shake. Have this, for part of breakfast and for one of
my snack. emoticon

Without reading every post so far I can say that I find it a challenge to eat breakfast sometimes too. For me the answer was to evaluate why I am eating first. Then realizing that it generally thought to be a good idea to take on calories in the morning, essentially that is what one is doing, I therefore decided the calories I needed didn't have to come from traditional breakfast sources. So I have some nuts, usually walnuts and almonds along with a protein shake and a multivitamin. Someday when I have time I have some eggs and a low carb tortilla. Bottom line is I try to get 300-350 calories in. Heck might even eat a turkey hot dog for 120 calories:)

For one week now, I start the day with 16-24 oz of hot water with lemon. Then I wait to see if I'm hungry. I am experimenting with IF and waiting 12 hrs before eating.

I find if I eat a healthy breakfast it just gets me off on the right foot. I have 1/2 cup of fresh blueberries with 1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt. Then an hour or so later at work I toast a Vitamuffin muffin top and add about 3/4 tablespoon peanut butter that melts on the hot muffin top and tastes like a delicious treat. I'm an admitted carb-o-holic.

This works for me - I'm now about 4 pounds from my goal and into size six jeans (down from 14). I say find what works for you and stick with it.

In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.

I have discovered that the cereal type breakfast actually makes me hungrier in the forenoon, plus upsets my stomach. I need fiber, but also fat and protein. Often I have a slice of toast with peanut butter and a small apple. Sometimes I make a bean tostada, or huevos rancheros with refried beans on it. Poached egg on toast with an. Apple also works for me. I must eat something because of the morning meds I take. I used to skip breakfast, but got grumpy and famished before lunch. If the day's schedule allows it, I will wait until midmorning for breakfast, skip lunch and plan a mid-evening snack instead, which schedule keeps my tummy happiest, but that does not usually work in our culture.

Breakfast salad's a good switch from time to time: a little lettuce, tomato, olive oil and apple cider vinegar, and a few nuts, grated cheese. Feels and tastes like a good meal, and it's an easy day starter.

I'm not a fan of breakfast foods. I can't afford (calorie wise) to eat sausage gravy and biscuits. :) I prepare 6 medium sized pickled eggs and eat one every morning. I'm done in about 20 seconds. On rare occasion I'll fix a bowl of cereal or cream of wheat. I eat fruit every day, but generally not for breakfast.

I find that if I eat before 11 am, I get bad indigestion. I usually skip breakfast because of it, but when I do eat breakfast, I take tams with it. I don't know why it happens, but I would like to make it stop. I miss having breakfast every morning.
