I've still got some in the freezer--ground and whole--consuming the oil is probably better but it is a bit more expensive than the seeds. I now use Krill oil as a source of omega-3 fatty acids; also the DHA and EPA extracts.
I use my small coffee bean grinder which I use just for the flax. Then I keep the ground in a small jar in the frig. I keep my whole seeds in the freezer also. I would think a mortar and pestle would do fine.
I use ground flax in oatmeal, smoothies, homemade baked goods and in my yogurt. Today I used them in the buttermilk oatmeal pancakes. I think I'll toss them on my salad tomorrow.
I am retired ~ I no longer have an excuse to not take care of myself.
well you don't want to heat them you want to grind them add them to your oatmeal.. smoothies.. I grind up a few tbsp and add it too salad and it helps absorb the phyto nutrients of the salad... it also kills cancers
