It can be hard to get too much fiber without also getting way too many carbs, so that is something to watch out for.

As long as you aren't uncomfortable or spending all of your free time in the restroom, going over a bit is probably not an issue.

Just over 1200, I do my best to never eat under that, especially since I am active (average burn of about 4,000 calories a week).

Wow I wish fiber kept ME from being hungry. I have been eating 25 to 30 gr daily for a few years now per my Dr, still have a problem with hunger though. And yes I get my protein.

I am retired ~ I no longer have an excuse to not take care of myself.

I find it essential to get at least 25g a day, but if I eat too much fiber at once, yeah, my body tends to let me know it was too much.

first of all good for you for getting enough fiber, I struggle to get the minimum each day. When I do. I feel much better. As for getting too much, I'd say too much of even a good thing is still too much.

You did the exact right thing adding fiber slowly. Point one for you!!!

Occasionally going over is not a big deal. I agree wit prior poster that you want to stay 50 or under, if possible. Again, sometimes is OK. Point two for you!!

Keep up the great work checking things out by asking for advice!!! Point three ... GAME!!!!

Good luck!

I am one who NEEDS to eat lots of fibre - generally a minimum of 42g daily, and sometimes I need to have 50-60g - especially if I need to use one of 2-3 different pain relief meds I have. My Dietitian even prescribed a particular fibre supplement to help me on those days it is hard to get enough.

Some people who eat too much end up with bowel issues, especially if not enough fluid is consumed. Too much fibre can also remove things like calcium, Below is a link from "Ask the Experts"

the only issue with too much fiber is moving things too quickly through your digestive tract to be absorbed. and that's generally not an issue unless you're over 50 g. and you'll likely notice this as it happens.

-google first. ask questions later.

I have been working out hard and my diet has become much healthier. I have slowly added more fiber into my diet and have enjoyed the benefits. Sometimes I find that I have been eating more fiber than the recommended value (by say 15g). On these days I have a harder time meeting my caloric requirements because I am full (because of the fiber). Assuming this happens occasionally, will this affect me negatively in the long run? Should I be super diligent in this area?
