oops - I meant to reply to the low cal syrup used as coffee flavoring as a great tip, but it shows as a new post!

welcome to my Vanessa Zone- Let's kick some ass and get it done! My goal is to get from 132 down to 115 asap (update- goal achieved- now going for 110!) What finally worked for me is a very strict cal restricted diet-it doesn't matter what kind of cals I eat as long as the total is very low! xoxo

Adding fresh fruit and low fat cottage cheese to plain greek yogurt boosts protein and helps keep me full for hours.

Plain yogurt with tiny bit of Stevia and a tiny bit of maple syrup, and I just use it as a dip for fresh fruit.
If cutting up the fresh peaches is messy and you don't like it, Cascadian Farms has frozen organic peaches...just put the bag in the fridge, and they're there when you need them, all sliced up, or ready for the blender. I make smoothies with peaches, banana, and a little bit of coconut and pineapple too. It's a great flavor in yogurt as well...very tropical.

Just for today I will....

I personally am not too picky with my yogurt, so I enjoy almost any type of fruit including bananas, apples, even oranges, etc. (Berries are my fav though, which I know are out for you!) I also use preserves every once in a while, but it sounds like that's out too, which would probably make a dab of honey "out" as well. I will also use nuts, flax seed, a tiny bit of healthy granola, etc. For me it always depends on the day.

I made what I call "Pumpkin Pie" with greek yogurt this morning.

1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt
1/4 cup of pure pumpkin
1 tsp (or a little more depending on your taste) of pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp of brown sugar

It's delicious!

Toasted sweetened shredded coconut and a touch of your sweetener of choice. And if you add a little pineapple, it's like eating ambrosia salad!

Honestly, I generally just eat flavored Chobani. Yeah, I could cut a few calories if I was willing buy plain Greek yogurt and then take the time to mix in fresh or home-cooked fruits. However, my issue is more getting enough protein and calcium than cutting calories right now and I'm more likely to grab a carton a yogurt to take to work or for dessert if it is "ready-to-eat".

Have you tried Siggi's skyr (Icelandic yogurt)? I am enjoying the Mango Pineapple flavor right at this moment... There's less sugar content (11g) than most cups of fruited yogurt, and more protein (14g). The flavor is subtle, but wow, I still wouldn't add anything to it and the creaminess is amaze-balls.

I have never been a yogurt lover, I actually can't stand the stuff! but I do know it has many benefits, and I have been kind of desperate for an easy, filling breakfast idea. I've been thawing one to one & a half cup frozen strawberries, mashing them up and mixing in a half cup of Stonyfield fat free vanilla yogurt. I've also tried canned peaches(del monte peaches in 100% juice) that I've drained really well and mashed up, or one cup strawberries and a medium banana all mashed and mixed together. I get 2x as much fruit as yogurt, but it seems to give me a good protein start to the day.

I stir sugar free instant pudding mix into greek yogurt and a bit of Splenda if needed (some flavors and brands have a slight bitterness that a tsp of Splenda seems to counterbalance).

The texture reminds me of no-bake cheesecake.

I stir in a small pkg of pudding mix into 2c of greek yogurt or I stir in a heaping tbs or so into 1/2 c greek yogurt.

It is very thick and rich so I find that I eat a smaller portion than I would eat of yogurt otherwise.

I also make my own unflavored yogurt in a crockpot (super easy. I found the instructions on youtube). I like that I can control how tart the yogurt gets. Less incubation time before refrigeration, the milder the batch. 4 -5 hours yields a yogurt that has very little tartness, so much so that it tastes more like sweet cream than yogurt.

I also stir in unflavored microfiltered whey protein powder into the milk when I add the yogurt starter, to boost the protein. It also helps thicken the yogurt. I keep the yogurt in air-tight glass or plastic bowls. And before dipping out a serving, I pour away the whey that has separated on top (you can just stir it back in). I pour it off so that before I finish the yogurt, the consistency is almost like greek yogurt.

I use a couple tablespoons from a plain chobani or fage greek yogurt to use as starter.

I make a version of carrot and raisin salad with lemon Greek yogurt, some 'Craisins' you know the drill, Shred the carrots then mix with yogurt and cranberries. You can add some finely chopped nuts. If you want. If you want it less sweet, use plain yogurt and some lemon or orange zest (1 tsp).

If you are looking to flavor it I use torani syrups (sugar free ones are good), homemade fruit syrups or those water flavoring drops (miio etc) then it tastes like candy. Usually I just throw in berries and nectress or splenda.

I use yogurt- any flavor- nonfat or lowfat. I'm into Greek. any brand for a lot of snacks. the bes tis dipping a granola bar into the yogurt. dip celery, carrot sticks. Mix in some granola 1/4 cup okay lets not get carried away. mix in flax seed ground, wheat germ, bee pollen. use one of these choices. or your lite snack will include 1200 calories and your weight will go up not down.. This also gives you variety. Lean Sake 25 has great suggestions.

ENJOY !!!

I like to buy the pain yogurt and add my own fruit or sweetener to it.
A few drops of honey mixed in add just the right amount of sweetness for me, I also like a drizzle of maple syrup or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar too.

Then comes the fruit which is fresh or frozen.
It may take a bit to move away from the sweetened fruit prepared stuff from the grocery store but you get used to it.
I also find my brain gets foggy with artificial sweetener so I don't use it.

Place 1/2 to 1 cup of frozen mixed berries into a bowl and allow to thaw; mix in 6 oz of nonfat Greek yogurt and a teaspoon of flax seed. The juice from the berries sweetens the yogurt. It is one of my favorite breakfast foods and snack.

I use artificial flavorings as well. Besides the usual ones you get at the grocery, I buy the sugar free Torani flavors. I have English Toffee, Hazelnut, Caramel, and Peach. I use my Gingerbread with canned pumpkin in my greek yogurt (Fage). No need for other spices! My daughter bought Cocoanut with sugar but it only has 60 cal. per 2 tablespoons, you can cut it in half too. But I do like crunch as well. I use ganola or almonds, pecans, or walnuts. I also like salty dips as well, and use a sprinkle of Hidden Valley Ranch powder in yogurt ( and have for 20 years, my kids ate raw veggies that way) to dip carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, and celery. I have also used cocoa powder, but be careful, too much is bitter.

Thank you Sparkpeople for being there!

I love vanilla Greek yogurt - especially with a 1/2 serving of Grape Nuts cereal mixed in. Something about that mix of creamy and crunchy, omg. Milled flaxseed is good too, or blueberries. I've not eaten it with honey, but I really like that mixed in to cottage cheese.

Take a small pkg sugar free jello and add 1 cup hot water and 1 c cold water put in refrig until it starts to set then add in your yogurt. Let it continue to set and then add a dollup of FF cool whip. Yum! I think I got it from Weight Watchers when I was in it.

Any and all jams! There's a lady at the local farmer's market who sells amazing jams in unexpected flavours like rosemary apple jelly, blood orange marmalade, pina colada jam with coconut and pineapple- they all make great stir-ins.

As a snack I add a TBS of ground flaxseed to plain Greek yogurt.
For a light dinner meal I add raisins and a portion of crunchy Kashi or some healthy cereal and mix together with plain Greek yogurt . Add a sweetener as needed. Acts as a comfort food at the end of the day, but quick, easy, and filling.

For a sweet snack, sometimes I'll put some no-sugar added fruit spread and a small amount of whatever (low or no sugar) dry cereal I have on hand to add some crunch to my fat-free plain greek yogurt.
Other times, since I usually keep a bottle of sugar-free flavored syrup (Torani brand is the most common one I've come across and quite good) I'll just mix in some of that (alternate of using vanilla, almond or some other extract + a little stevia works well too) and as before, toss in some crunchy no or low sugar cereal.

Try flavored granola. The bulk section of my grocery store has all types to choose from. My favorite is maple. I'll do a half cup of nonfat plain yogurt with 2 tbs of maple granola and a little honey. It's quite good.

I have always loved adding Grape Nuts and fruit to my yogurt, but now I'm not so sure the cereal is as healthy as I once thought. Chopped nuts have been a nice alternative, with a dash of cinnamon to vanilla yogurt.

Wow some really great ideas here. I saved this post for future reference so I can try many of the suggestions.

I like to add honey and pumpkin pie spice to my greek yogurt and usually eat with granola or chia seeds. Cocoa powder is great too. As is raspberry (or other kinds of) preserves with cinnamon. I also like nut butter mixed with pumpkin pie spice to dip apples.
