I am trying to be careful and eat more fruits and veggies, as well as workout, but this week has been a little more difficult. I did squeeze in a 20 minute walk this evening. If I don't start losing in a few weeks, I will call the doctor. I usually walk 5 nights a week and have been within my calorie count mostly, so the lack of loss is puzzling.

A high calorie day (roughly 400-600 calories over what I had been eating) is what broke a month long plateau I had a few months ago. I say enjoy - just be sure a few days doesn't turn into a few weeks!

I'd say that you have to live in this world, and that there will be times that tracking and weighing will not fit.

Doesn't mean you have to full-out indulge in everything in sight; just make the best choices you can and enjoy the activities and company.

"...but am frustrated with my lack of weight loss lately. I seem to be having issues with my eating. I need to clear my head."

MOMMYRE : Sounds like a great trip. Frankly, I think you needed/need a break from too much calorie counting, weight loss desire, and overall logging of food consumed. The fact that you know you "need to clear your head" is very significant. It is very important to not feel stressed out when engaging in weight loss.

You can always get back to losing. Take a bit of a break and just relax. The trip was a great idea and opportunity.

Good luck!

We went to Fairy Stone State Park in Virginia. I loved the hike but at one point I didn't know if I would make it! It was great, though. Beautiful views at the overlook at the top of the mountain!

Where'd ya'll go? How were the trails? I love camping/hiking.
p.s. It sounds like you had a good time with loved ones and stayed active. I'd call that a successful trip.

So I went over total calories sort of. I was over and under alternately. If I look at my differential for the days, I am really not that bad. And, based upon the fact that my calorie differential for the week is over 4000, I will theoretically lose a pound this week anyway. If not, it's a week, not a lifetime. Eh, I enjoyed my vacation. Back to being super serious. I am frustrated from not losing, but my mom seems to think that maybe relaxing this weekend and focusing on family/ fun might just jump start my metabolism. We'll see. Here's to s'mores now and then!

That's up to you. Personally, I'd include it, because minutes are minutes... but I don't think it will make or break you either way. :)

So, I need to "repair" the food I tracked. I know I tracked the wrong foods, but I didn't want to stop tracking while I was gone. I also did a very strenuous trail and tracked it funny so that it would account for all my calories burned, since I know I burned closer to the map my walk estimate. (asked the doc, she said SP for ones that I don't use MMW, MMW for the ones I use it for, and Average if I use my watch too). It was a very tough trail. Actually it was the hardest trail out there, and I did it!!!!!! In an hour and a half!!!! The park ranger said it takes her 3 hours!!!

I am very proud of myself. I busted my calories each day, but I did get some exercise, and I didn't even put in the million trips to the bathroom, which I could probably add another mile per day for the walk down to the bath house and back.

Any input? I am going to try to make my food a little more accurate later today. Should I add a mile a day? (No that isn't an exaggeration, it was .25 miles to the bathroom and back, I went at least 4 times, usually 6 or 7.)

A 'smore is a toasted marshmallow, sandwiched with a pce of chocolate, between 2 graham wafers/crackers. A wonderful treat if you have a campfire! Melty and marvelous!

Life is not always convenient to our schedules or plans. Sometimes you have to say "I'm going to do my best and the rest can go hang." I say go on your trip; hike, swim, have fun. Eat what you like, try to keep portions in mind and try to avoid eating just to eat. But don't beat yourself up and don't go crazy. This is supposed to be a Fun trip.
When you get back, climb right back on the wagon; get back to logging and watching your calories. And you'll be just fine.

I think its important to pose the question, "what do i hope to gain from this decision?" What does the smore provide you that you are not already getting? Do you enjoy to foods on your current mealplan? Are they varied enough to keep you sated?

I would say aim for *maintenance* - not weight loss. You're going to be active, busy, and there's a time for "dieting"-- on the trails ain't it.

"Fattening" foods aren't, anyway. It's overindulgence that causes weight gain, not having a smore when you're camping. Enjoy your treats. That's what SP is about. Not dieting, LIVING!

Enjoy and have fun! Even when you're eating out, you can still make a wise choice about what to order.

Sounds like a fun trip. Just keep an eye on your portions and have fun. One weekend away from your normal routine won't hurt anything. I'm sure you'll come back energized and ready for the fall!

If you are going to be doing more exercise and more hiking, then I would be inclined to eat more anyway. I would say, "go, and enjoy your week-end" ....... and REALLY enjoy it without worries! Come back refreshed :-)

How bad would it be not to focus quite as much this weekend? I have plans to walk and exercise, possibly even longer hikes, because we will be camping. I am excited to go, but am frustrated with my lack of weight loss lately. I seem to be having issues with my eating. I need to clear my head. How bad would it hurt to be semi-careful this weekend, but not focus as strongly? What I mean is we are definitely having smores, and I love them. We also tend to eat lots of lean meat and veggies, so the food isn't all fattening. How bad would it be to eat a smore, or eat a large breakfast the ONE morning we go out to eat, and just not focus much on the calorie intake? I will still track my food and try not to go crazy, but if I hit 1600 calories, rather than my high end at 1550, should I really care that much for one weekend. Really, just Saturday and Sunday because most meals will be at home Friday and Monday, just one a day will be away from home on those two days. I am going to workout just like I was at home, I just need a break so that I don't give up completely.
