I agree with AMANDANCES, it's most likely due to spoil.

I don't find certain ingredients disagree with me unless they're spoilt aside from drinking plain cow's milk or sushi (no matter where it's from, no matter if it's cooked, any type; I think it's the seaweed wrap).

Legumes used to cause a lot of bloat and gas but I've grown used to them and they don't bother me anymore.

It's also possible that the ingredients were contaminated in some way, and you're reacting to the contaminant. It wouldn't be the first time a product was recalled because of tainted eggs or cheese or meats. Did you check the lot number to see if there was a recall?

Alternately, the food might have thawed or been maintained at too low a temperature -- grocery store freezers aren't exactly the most ideal storage :/ Thus allowing bacteria to grow.

Interesting palindrome, your username! Thanks for the thoughts...I wondered if it might be cumulative, too. I am tossing out the only other "fake" food I ate the previous night...some "light" yogurt with artificial sweetener in it, as well as the muffins. Done with that! It's just REAL food from now on!

Thanks, good ideas. I actually wondered if it was cumulative. The night before I ate some yogurt that had artificial sweetener in it...I usually can tolerate small amounts. That's really the only thing I could think of that wasn't just natural food I always eat.

At this point, tossing out the remainder of both the yogurt (didn't like it anyway, it was TOO sweet!) and the muffins. Back to basics!

BTW, your username is an interesting palindrome! :)

i would say that you should write down every ingredient on the label. then compare those ingredients to the ones in things that you can tolerate with no issues. you may be able to narrow it down to one or two things that you want to avoid in the future.
also, is there any chance it could have been something in what you ate last night? or a cumulative effect from what you had yesterday? and your stomach was more struggling along and fine until something [the muffin] made it things need to move forward at which point your digestive tract gave up trying to deal with it?

-google first. ask questions later.

Megapeej, I agree! I think I've learned my lesson. In the future, only REAL foods...identifiable, and preferably prepared at home so I know for sure what's in them. Back to the basics, the foods our mothers fed us!

I haven't had quite as severe a reaction as you had, but I can say that artificial foods/colorings/ingredients in general tend to not agree with my gut the same way that natural food does. Going back to the Egg McMuffin example, an hour after eating one I'll feel bloated and sluggish and (TMI warning) will need to get to a bathroom with some urgency. On the flipside of that, yesterday I got out my griddle and fried up real bacon, fried the eggs in the left over bacon fat, and put it all on a dinner roll (the only ingredients being flour, water, salt, and yeast), and I felt satisfied and full of energy for the next 6 hours.

I think sometimes our guts just want food that they know what to do with, and they're pretty good at saying "WHAT am I supposed to do with azodicarbonamide and sodium erythorbate??! Get it out!"

Do something everyday that your future self will thank you for.

This morning I had what I thought would be a nice healthy alternative to McDonald's Egg McMuffin...the Weight Watchers Smart Ones English Muffin with Turkey Bacon, egg whites and cheese. I cooked it EXACTLY according to directions, and it came out piping hot and tasted good. Unfortunately, I had a bad reaction to SOMETHING in the food, spent the next couple of hours sitting on the john! I know I don't tolerate those "fake fats" such as olestra, but I didn't find anything like that on the label. It was the only thing I ate this morning, so there's no chance it's something else. And once it was (finally!) completely out of my system, I was fine, so it's not a virus or bug. Anyone else experience anything like this???
