If I do choose to indulge in the real thing, like a piece of cake or brownie I just have a snack instead of a meal with it. That way the calories are more balanced.

I have one or buy a single serving of whatever I'm craving and try to fit it into my cal range. I love chips, so if I'm craving them, I'll get one single serving bag to eat at lunch. Or one cup from the ice cream shop. Or one soft taco at Taco Bell. You get the idea. :)

Sometimes my craving for sweets are different than a craving for sweets. That sounds weird, but sometimes when I want sweets what I really want and need is some tlc. That desire for tender loving care sometimes masquerades around as a craving for doughnuts or cookies or those ooey gooey treats.
So, when that craving strikes, I mix a yummy chocolate super greens powder with some soy or skim milk, or if I don't have a super greens mix I just make a hot chocolate with real cocoa powder and easy sugar or splenda. Or sometimes I just have a square or two of some European dark chocolate.
If that doesn't take care of my chocolaty sweet craving, then I know something else is going on, and I know I need to find another way to cope, like going for a nature walk, or reading some inspirational passages, looking at some pretty pictures, or listening to some uplifting music to get some distance from that feeling.
I hope that helps, and I hope you succeed in your endeavors. :)

I like frozen grapes or pineapple--they take longer to eat and seem more of a treat. Or I have a mug of hot chocolate (whatever variety you like). Or I have rice or corn cakes with strawberry cream cheese or PB and honey. Kettlecorn popcorn is good too. Sometimes even baby carrots and sweet grape tomatoes will cut a craving--something about the munching.

I make up a half cup of Fage non fat Greek yogurt. Add a scoop of protein powder and a tiny bit of sweetener. It takes awhile to stir into a creamy consistency but don't give up. It is work the effort. Lunch or snack it is very filling and satisfies my urge for chocolate pudding.

Usually for chocolate sweets.
Just a taste can trigger a deep craving, especially when I'm upset about something or someone.
