Plan is giving you the option of picking which you prefer. Instant oatmeal is a starter for some members who don't eat it and will do better just adding water and going. Other members use quick cook while still others prefer more whole grain versions and go with steel cut. As the portion states, .75 cup, cooked so that means post-cooked. Hope that helps.
