It's good to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. It could be that we're gaining muscle, and I know I drink loads of water during the summer. Still, I've used a tape measure and haven't seen any improvements in the last month. I did, however, see a two pound drop on the scale since Monday, but my stomach was emptier than usual when I weighed myself this morning. I'm going to try eating about 1500 cal/day this week and see if I can get used to it.

I wonder if your body is holding onto some additional water for your muscles? If you just recently started and exercise program or a dramatically different one, your body grabs more water for your muscle. I know that's not very comforting... I had somebody tell me that and it really didn't help much... but you never know.

I'm in the same situation...eating approx. 1400 calories, walking 45 mins a day/18min miles and the scale keeps going up. I measure every week and no changes there. My salt is usually below what SP says.

I wish SP would address this since there are so many people having this problem.

Thank you for all your suggestions and info. I do think you need to know more about me. I am 63, have had two knee replacements, and one hip replacement. I have degenerative arthritis in my lower back, and I am diabetic. I started exercising on July 3rd, and am trying to add some intensity to my workout. I go to the gym and use the treadmill for 30 min....today I increased the grade, and got up to 2.8 mph. I also use the elipticle for 30 min. I am weighing and measuring my food. This is where I am at. My weekly weight today, was the same as last Friday. And, yes, I weigh myself at the same time, naked, as soon as I get out of bed, and have urinated. You have all been so very kind, I am happy I made the desicion to use Sparkpeople.. Thanks!! emoticon

I'm having the same problem!! I eat between 1450-1600 calories on most days (usually have 1 day a week at about 2000) do jazzercise about 5 times a week (burning about 450 calories a session) and I can't seem to lose any weight!! I feel like my only option is to eat 1200-1300/day and hope for the best but I know that isn't good.

Please help!

How tall are you?
Do you know your % body fat?
I would also like to see your nutrition tracker---let me know if you need the steps to make it public?

Gaining weight for a month straight, while burning the calories daily that you report and only eating about 1400-1500 calories daily---does not add up. You may need to see your doctor.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Some days are better than others. I am hungry quite often too. I try to stay busy doing something with my hands so I can't eat. If it gets too bad I eat raw carrots or a glass of tomato juice. Watermelon or other melons are also good. I had an awful day today, but I have resolved to make tomorrow better! Try with me, OK? emoticon

How much salt are you using? Salt retains water, and water weighs a ton. Remember to manage your salt intake.

Are you weighing under exactly the same circumstances on the same scale every time? I always weigh in at the gym before I swim. Always the same suit, always the same time of day. Run to the bathroom first, and exhale (kidding), then weigh.

What time of the month is it? Seriously. You know how we retain water at that "special" time!

Are you balancing your carbs, fats and proteins?

We all have maddening plateaus and upticks on the scale. Then suddenly, things lurch down. I agree with others - use a measuring tape too.

If all else fails, print out your nutrition and exercise trackers, take them to your doctor and get some professional help.

I'm having this problem, too. I've been eating better, exercising for hours almost every day, and I'm gaining weight. I'm eating more than SparkPeople says I should, but it's because I'm so hungry. The hunger wakes me up at night, and I'm still eating more than I'm supposed to eat. When I was eating more, I was also gaining weight. I'm stable right now, but 15 pounds above my goal weight. I'm so discouraged and disappointed in myself.

Keyles, try to alternate between high intensity and low intensity during a walk. Stay at a higher intensity for 3-4 minutes, then bring it down again. It helps your metabolism and burns a few more calories.

It sounds like your fitbit is overestimating your calorie output by a lot. 40 minutes at 2.5 miles an hour doesn't really burn a lot of calories.

Something seems odd there because at your calorie intake you should be losing weight and you're not exercising enough to cause starvation, really.

Sometimes scales go up or stay exactly the same, you could wait it out and see if it's just normal fluctuations.

I am walking 4 days a week for 40 minutes (2.5 mph), eating 1200-1500 calories a day and for the last two weeks my scale has only gone UP. What is going on? It is killing my motivation, I figure if I am going to gain weight, I might as well really eat a lot and enjoy it. HELP

IMO your calorie intake is too low for the amount of exercise you're doing and you may be messing up your metabolism. Try either cutting back on the amount of exercise or increasing your calories to fuel your workouts. Sounds crazy, I know, but your body might be fighting starvation right now. Give it a try and see how it responds to more fuel.

Are you measuring the portions you track on a food scale or just eyeballing them and guestimating?

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

Something is not right. Is your scale broken? lol. Have you taken your measurements to see if those are going down? I once embarked on a fitness plan and lost no weight in several months. I don't know what it means but I tone down the exercise now (I do believe I was overdoing it), watch my nutrition and sleep as much as I can. This is still a very very slow process but at least the scale is going the correct direction.

Consistency is goal #1

Are you new to exercising? Sometimes when we start to exercise our muscles retain water. When I do a weight training session, the next day I weigh more than the day before. Measure your success by how you feel not the scale. Are clothes fitting better? do you have more energy? I read somewhere that when people do weight training, they will initially gain weight but not necessarily fat. I have days when I eat right, clean like you, have a great week working out and yet one week I gained 3 Ilbs. Give your body a chance to adjust and give yourself a break, you are on track. Perhaps you will get more input from others. I hope you do. In the meantime, relax and applaud yourself for what you are doing! emoticon

Just wondering if anyone is having this issue b/c it is super frustrating? I am tracking every little thing that is going in and I have only gained over the past 30 days instead of lost. I just got this fit bit that tells me I am burning 2500-3000 a day depending on my exercise. So I am netting (or so my fit bit shows) a burn of btwn 300-1000/day (depending on my exercise) b/c I cannot eat but so much. I am staying above 1200 in food/day and most of the time btwn 1300-1600/day in food while exercising off 500-800/day. I currently weigh 150 and before I started tracking I was 144 and now I have only gained! I am so confused and very frustrated. At one point I was down to 133 and that was perfect but I started getting too comfortable and added in some foods I should not have had but I was still burning a ton of calories a day. At that time, when I was 133 I was told my BMR at the dr. was 1330, I was eating a bit below that and still exercising. My meals are protein heavy with few complex carbs and lots of veggies. I eat very clean and very little processed. Once in a while, like anyone, I have a little cheat but it is not anything that would make me gain this kind of weight. I am looking for help b/c I am so frustrated. I mean maybe I should stay at the 1300/day and exercise down the rest but it seems too low at the now 150 I am. Any suggestions?
