A month ago! After losses, the last week of the month I gained. It was super hard to write down that gain (i even waited a day and tried again - nope the same weight). I thought it was very unfair! :D But I wrote it and moved on. This week I lost the pounds I gained plus one more.

1st Goal: 18lbs by June 1 - Met goal on 4/28

2nd Goal: Onederland by July 31

Three years ago when I cut out 90% of added sugar and wheat. I took my carb intake down to less than 90g a day and boosted my protein intake significantly. The only carbs I ate were in vegetable form. The weight just fell off and except for one candy binge in 2012, I have never looked back!

When I started walking on a treadmill and watching my calorie intake in January the weight began falling off very quickly. I have lost altogether since January about 55 lbs and 9 inches. NO surgery, NO trainer and NO diet. I have done all by myself and do not plan to stop. I have lost over 110 lbs since I started watching what I eat. I did not begin exercise in the beginning, it has been 2 1/2 years all together.

I usually lose the first week I start dieting. Not sure how because I am usually trying to purge bad food out of my house before officially starting, but I think the mental aspect of making better choices along the way is helpful no matter what stage you're in.

I've been slowly losing for a while. But things REALLY took off when I stopped eating grains and sugar. Or at least, removed them from my diet as much as I can. Oh, and I upped my fat intake to 50%-70% of my calories. WHOA - what a difference. Hunger - gone. Bloating - gone. Joint pain - gone. Skin - clear and clean. And I dropped 10 pounds in the first few weeks - never to be seen again!

I had a gastric sleeve bariatric surgery 12-10-2012 which really helped me to lose . I followed all their advice, sugar free, low fat, high protein and exercise. I had been a couch potato for years so I had to start slowly and increase my exercise gradually. I was unable to walk like I should due to hip pain from arthritis; so I joined LA Fitness the last of January. Things really picked up then. I went from strength training of 30# to 80#. Also recumbant bike with no pressure to a pressure of 9; from 15 min. to 40 min. Now I am able to use the ellipytical machine some as well. I use the leg press at 120#. To date I have lost 80# and would like to lose 20-30# more. I actually like to go workout now and miss it if I cannot go!

Thank you Sparkpeople for being there!

I started losing after the first 2 months emoticon emoticon emoticon

I started a month ago , but I didn't go nowhere.
Why? I am finding everything I do tiresome and very difficult. I am trying to continue and get somewhere with my fight for a better life. My health has been going down in the last 5 years. I am 73 and recently I am experiencing quite a bit of pain with this injury of a sciatic nerve. Of course that has nothing to do with my continued to eat things are not beneficial for me. I believe depression is the cause of wanting more sweets, is my weakne

I had been battling a 3 lb. gain and loss, gain and loss, over and over for a few months. I started watching my sugar intake and realized that it was WAY too much! Once I became aware of that and limited added sugar in my diet, I started losing quickly and leaped over that plateau!

I started losing weight when I was able to walk just 30 minutes, only weekdays, not weekends. I've lost 20 in one year with just trying to be aware of what I eat but never really being serious and logging. I would like to lose 52 pounds more.

My journey to a healthy body weight began almost 4 years ago when I was 248 lbs. It has been a journey of self-discovery in so many ways. I have had wonderful successes and also periods of back-sliding in to my old unhealthy ways. It has been the true meaning of a drastic lifestyle change and it has taken time. I've gotten 59 lbs off and I'd like to take off another 41 to reach my goal weight.

What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it.

Because I'm not very tall (5'2") ten pounds is a significant change for me - about 1 size. On a 12-1500 weekly calorie plan, with a couple of days of walking, I'll feel more comfortable in my clothing in about three days (assuming I'm not feeling bloated from anything). Maintaining a steady loss is difficult though because my base metabolism is only 1600 calories - doesn't take much for the weight to go up.

Crunches and other strength building exercise affect fit almost more than this last 10 pounds (yes, I've had these last 10 pounds come and go long enough to give them names!). A week to ten days of abdominal workouts results in the same clothing fit as losing 3-4 pounds.

I lost 5 lbs. the first week on SP, but I didn't lose another lb. for 2 weeks. This is my 6th week on SP. I didn't gain the weight overnight, so I don't expect to lose it that quickly either.

My weight crept up from the high 120's to the high 130's over the past couple of years. (a combination of menopause and unhealthy eating habits). I made a false start on SP last fall and lost motivation after having too much fun at a friend's wedding. lol I got back into tracking and made a conscious effort to eat healthy foods this past July 11. I cut out the salty junk food (chips, etc.) that was dragging me down and replaced it with summer fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries and blueberries. I also got back into a regular walking routine (30 mins a day of brisk walking 4-5 times a week). The scale didn't budge for four weeks other than an occasional .5 lb fluctuation. Every day I gave myself a pep talk to avoid frustration because I did notice that some (not all) of my clothes felt slightly less uncomfortable. (notice I said "slightly" - ha!) I wasn't sure if it was all in my head or not. I've been experimenting with macro nutrients and calorie ranges and late last week decided to try eating less carbs (not low carb, just less than what I'd been having) and dropped my daily calories by about 100. (I'm now currently in the 1400 range for 52 yrs old, 5'0, 135 lbs) A few days after starting that I stepped on the scale and the number literally dropped 2.5 lbs overnight. I know I didn't lose it that quickly. I think it's just a coincidence that I saw a drastic drop after I made some slight changes to my diet. I believe persistence and patience paid off and my body finally let go of some weight. It's a learning process for me. I'm figuring out what works for MY body and learning to live with the hormonal fluctuations of menopause. I'm also learning to make this a lifestyle that isn't restrictive. If I can't have the occasional treats that I love (like ice cream or a couple of cookies), then it's not going to work for me. It's not about jumping on and off a bandwagon. I take it one day at a time by making healthy choices, getting some exercise and enough sleep, tracking my day and moving on to the next.

emoticon

Started in December 2002. Joined Sparkpeople in 2004 (back when you had to pay and there were no adverts) and lost 120 pounds. I was eating too few calories for how much I worked out and developed an eating disorder and gained 130 pounds back. I'm now down about 80 from my highest weight, but I recently re-gained 20 lbs. It's been quite a rollercoaster!

At night I am trying to fit in the calories and balance my diet between carbs, fats and proteins. It can be difficult. I am losing and exercise is very helpful for me as we'll. I lost a few pounds the first week. I know I will lose something this week but not sure how much. Time will tell.

I cut out all soda and changed how I ate totally. I didn't cut out fast food totally, but cut it back big time. I lost my first ten pounds in about two and a half weeks. Soon after, I added cardio and strength training to my healthy eating habits and now I'm down thirty eight pounds and still going strong!

It took me about a month to lose 5 lbs, but I had to cut out fast food. And soda pop and drink more water...I thought I would lose more since I cut out tonz of calories but that wasn't the case. Instead of looking at the negative I thank Jesus that I can loose the weight! :)

Good for you. I know I always feel guilty when I don't track or when I've left it for a few days or a few weeks...If we just keep trying we'll get it. emoticon

I keep track of my weight almost daily but only record it if it goes down. Everyone knows your weight can fluctuate throughout the week but I only want to measure myself against my lows. My long term goal is to lose 50 pounds or so and get down to 190. My interim goal when I started working out in April was to lose 20 pounds to get down to 217 and remove myself from the "obesity" range on the BMI scale. Today I'm 3.5 pounds away from that number.

I've always believed that the goal of exercise is to increase your metabolism such that your body is better at burning calories if you skip a day of exercise or go way off your diet over the weekend. I now feel that after four months my body is responding the way that I want it to. If I eat really lean (fish, veggies, whole grains) I can lose a couple of pounds a week or lose those extra pounds I put on when (not if!) I overindulge on some weekend. This of course delays my reaching my ultimate goal, but then I'm trying to enjoy the journey and not beat myself up for wanting to live a little on occasion. But to answer the question, it took almost two months before my metabolism got revved and I started seeing a mostly downward trend on the scale.

It took four weeks of lots of exercising and lots of healthy eating and lots of water before my scale budged. I've lost 6lbs.

They say it's healthy to lose only 1-2lbs a week. I guess I fall into that. But I'd prefer to lose more a little faster.

I starting losing (again) on Monday! I had joined SP, lost a lot of weight, quit for almost 2 years, and gained it all back. So I started again this past Monday, and I am here to stay this time!

I started to lose right away. It came off quickly in about 6 months. I have a harder time losing 5 pounds though after I put it back on.

After a three year plateau of Weight Watchers I joined SparkPeople and started losing weight. I think it's because I started counting calories. Then my old dog got sick and crazy and started waking me up at night which led to night eating on my part. I realized I was eating between 100 and 200 calories a day that I didn't need. You see, I have learned to go to sleep at night without stuffing myself first but my dog didn't like that. He couldn't sleep if I was laying there waiting to sleep instead of going unconscious due to a stuffed stomach. I got rid of the dog and now I expect to start losing again. 100 extra calories a day is a 10 pound weight gain a year. 200 extra calories a day will result in a 20 pound weight gain in a year. Now that I have been without a dog for a couple of days I am figuring out the financial aspect of owning a dog. It's about $2000 a year and it's a whole lot of work. I was happy to bear the burden of owning a dog until the dog started sabotaging my diet. I am amazed at how precarious my eating routine is. No wonder I have had a terrible weight problem all my life. I require far fewer calories than the people around me and I am very reactive to stress. I am glad I did not have children. I would not want to pass on my genetic weaknesses.

My first post to the message board. Here goes. I have been messing around with Spark People on and off (mostly off) for about 2 years starting when my weight was not that much of an issue. Now however, I am looking to lose almost 40 lbs. I have started and restarted several times.
Recently I have joined Spark Coach and have been much more consistent. A few weeks ago I restarted my program with a starting weight of 186 only to find myself at 189 a few days later and I just couldn't get that scale to budge. Very frustrating since I was tracking faithfully and exercising 5 days a week. I remembered that a while back I found some success with starting my day with a cup of warm lemon water and started that again. I also have purchased some guided meditation sessions through The Jon Gabriel program (called Cellular Wisdom) and have been practicing for 3 days now. Lo and behold...I am so grateful that the scale is finally starting to tip in the right directions. I think everyone should at least try meditation, it has so many benefits.

When I kept my calories between 1200 and 1500. Working out didn't help if I wasn't keeping a close eye on my food...and drink.

Lin, I did a similar diet to yours, the Cura Romana, and released 80 lbs. Like you I had been unsuccessful with other methods. I was predicable tic,, but no more. I am no longer on medication. I dd the diet by myself following the method outlined in Leslie Kenton's book. I will do a couple more rounds to take me to my best ever weight. And I feel confident I will stay there.

Just started SparkPeople 3 weeks ago and got weighed at the Doctor's office yesterday - lost 7 pounds! That is pure motivation right there! Yes it is hard - Yes, I am struggling BUT it is working. I am being really strict with what I eat - no more sugar, white flour, pasta - very low carbs, more veggies and fruits, more fish / chicken. Nature Valley Protien bars - Glucerna mini snack bars (they are my "candy" right now). What a GREAT start! Now I need to get my butt in gear and start moving - need to excercise - started walking but I need to do more. This is a great website and I really enjoy using it and want to get to know my fellow dieters. I know that if you have the right support - anything is possible.

My Mantra - I can do this - I can do this - I can do this.............

I have been trying forever...but, I started the Spark Solution plan on Memorial Day and have surpassed my "summer goal" of 25 lbs. I still cannot believe it and couldn't be more proud! I have set new goals to reach now!
