I usually add cinnamon and chia seeds, or chopped banana or apple (with the cinnamon, often) to mine.

As an aside - look at the ingredients list - choose those with the least amount of additives; there are a wide variety of "Greek-style" out there trying to fool you as healthy

I add a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of cinnamon to my plain yogurt. An extra couple of calories, but it makes it taste nice!

I don't like the taste of plain so I mix in my own fresh fruit.

I don't eat it plain. I either buy the flavored ones (I like Fage blueberry/acai a lot) or I buy plain and add a tablespoon or so of homemade jam. Honestly, because it's so thick and creamy, it tastes pretty decadent when I eat it that way.

Vandis,

I don't really love eating yogurt in any form, but I find that the thicker consistency of Greek yogurt makes it easier for me to eat (because regular yogurt feels like I'm drinking food....). I have found that the brand of yogurt can REALLY make a huge difference. Out of all of the brands I've tried, here's what I'd say:

Thicker Consistency (which I can eat with fruit/honey/nutella mixed in):
Fage
Dannon Oikos
Trader Joe's brand

Thinner Consistency (which I use for dips, smoothies, and overnight oatmeal, and I've made frozen yogurt with this also):
Voskos
Chobani

Since I'm not such a fan of eating yogurt plain, my favorite way to sneak it into food is through overnight oatmeal. It's a great way to make breakfast ahead of time and have something that will keep you full and satisfied for hours after eating it. If you get the fat free yogurt, you should also add some nuts or nut butter to this recipe. Fat and protein help to keep your blood sugar from spiking when you eat all the carbohydrates in oatmeal. Here's how I make mine:

1/4 cup old fashioned oats (just regular, not quick cooking)
1/3 cup plain greek yogurt
1/4 cup milk (I use unsweetened almond milk but regular cow's milk works great, too)
1/2 cup of fruit (usually I use some cut up banana and frozen berries and I often do 1 cup)
sweetener, if needed (I don't use any now but I've used both honey and brown sugar before)

You can add a dash of vanilla if you like the flavor, as well. Just mix everything together and put it in the fridge for at least a couple of hours. Depending on how long your fruit will last, you can make these days in advance and leave them in the fridge. I usually do 3 days worth at a time. I've eaten this almost every morning this summer!

Hi Vandis! I've had trouble with the taste of plain greek yogurt too! I do like it as a sour cream or mayo substitute. To eat it plain, I add 1-2 teaspoons of no-sugar added All Fruit to it and that makes all difference. emoticon

After trying almost every brand out there, I found I like the Fage brand the best and it is good with the All Fruit. I plan to have it as part of my breakfast tomorrow!

Life is NOT a dress rehearsal!

Put it in a smoothie

Use it instead of mayo or sour cream

And it's okay if you don't like it. You don't have to eat it if you don't want to. To me, it's a lot like sour cream-- great in cooking or as a topping, nice as a dip for fruit with a little vanilla and brown sugar, but not something I really want to eat with a spoon. I usually eat regular yogurt instead-- less protein but more calcium. There's no one food that you *must* eat.

I'm not a big fan of the plain stuff by itself, either. I use it a lot for cooking and smoothies. When I want to eat yogurt, I either buy the kind that has vanilla, honey or fruit already in it, or I add my own to the plain. It's much tastier that way.

I only use plain for cooking. Try different varieties. There are some that I just don't like, some I can take or leave & others that I love. I will admit that I do tend to buy the ones that already have fruit mixed in, especially during the winter months.

I love eating it with fresh fruit and granola. I almost never buy it plain, except for a big container I keep around for making dips, dressings, sauces, pancakes, etc. If you don't like the taste of plain (and I don't, even with fruit and stuff), try the vanilla! Then you can still add in what you want.

I blended it with soymilk and mixed berries in the blender, it was quite refreshing. Also, I never realized how good watermelon tasted in plain yogurt. Yum!

why do you have to eat it plain?

I mix mine with different types of fruit and truvia or a tablespoon of granola.

Add in fruit or whatever you think you may like with the yoghurt. I eat Greek Yoghurt quite a lot I enjoy it! If you dislike it too much regular yoghurt isn't going to hurt you if you get low sugar varieties~

Oh my goodness. I have never had greek yogurt, let alone eaten plain yogurt. This is going to take some getting used to. A lot of getting used to.
