If I want a sweeter smoothie, I just add in a tsp of honey. It's only about 22 calories and it's far tastier than splenda. With honey, you don't really need as much because it's so sweet.

@azul - it's not huge, it fits to the brim in one solo cup. The kale and the blueberries blend down to not very much mass, and then there's just a cup of soy milk.

I don't agree with everyone elses fear of artificial sweetners though I may have overshot the number of packets I need because this is the first time I tried it.

Hey NSMANN, I would recommend switching out the splenda for strawberries. I make a very similar smoothie in the morning and 1/2 cup frozen strawberries sweetens it right up. Plus you get fiber and good nutrients for less than 50 added calories. I've also used mango and blueberries with much success.

FYI I agree with what everyone else says about splenda...

Yeah, 8 packets is a lot...

I prefer to stick to ripe fruit (bananas, berries, orange juice, etc.) in my smoothies because they are naturally sweet. Greens like spinach and kale tend to stick out too much and make me nauseous. I'd rather eat them cooked or in a salad than drink them in a smoothie!

I agree with GD. Whenever your food has artificial ( artificial sweetener ) in the name, you should pause for a second.

Foods like this have replaced real food over the last few decades, and coincidentally cancer rates have skyrocketed. You don't need any added salt or sugar, artificial or otherwise. We have forgotten how good natural foods actually taste, and instead are eating low fat foods loaded with salt/sugar. Your smoothies have fruit in them, so it has all the sugar you need. You just need to let you taste buds adapt back to normal, by quitting the added salt/sugar. The fruit will taste sweeter, and meat will taste saltier, and the food will be real, and tasty, and you will get healthier, instead of get cancer.

I'd be cautious about using that much Splenda on a daily basis - www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/12/splenda-

I tried adding about 8 packets of splenda to my smoothie this morning and boy did it make a difference! The full recipe is 1 cup soy milk, 1 scoop protein powder, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1 cup kale, 1/2 cup water, 8 packets splenda. Can't even taste the kale and it's sweet and delicious.
