Sometimes, I put off a craving for days, but my mind won't give it up - then I plan ahead for the and make sure that I've consciously decided to go for it.

Other times, I find something else to do for a while and I get over the craving.

If I'm craving something very strongly, it's usually from stress - I take a few deep breaths and find something in the fridge with protein - like low fat cheese - and eat it with a piece of fruit.

That usually works.

Definitely keeping it out of the apartment is the best solution for me. I can want it and want it all I want, but if it isn't here, then I'm not going to go get it. But in those times where I DO have something out of the norm, I have to have the BIGGEST pot of self-control because I'm the type to eat whatever it is until it's gone so I don't have to see it anymore.

Distraction is the key for me! The other thing that works is inconvenience. I don't really keep unhealthy stuff in my house, other than the obligatory werthers originals which is how I satisfy my sweet tooth. If I have a craving for pringles or donuts or something, I can usually resist because getting it would require going down and up three flights of stairs and walking to the nearest store, between 2 minutes and 15 minutes away.

I'm totally with you on the distraction. That's usually my best tactic!! But we sound very similar overall, so we must be doing things just fine!!!

Here's my tip for dealing with cravings when they come up: prevention is key! I keep unhealthy things that I typically crave out of the house. When the craving hits, it's unlikely I'll go to the trouble of going out to get it. When the craving just won't go away, I try to distract myself with something challenging, like a problem from work or a computer game. If all else fails and I have to give in to the craving, I'll have a small portion or go for a healthier substitute. How do you deal with cravings when they come up?
