Make your own trail mix with raw nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. I make mine with almonds, peanuts, cashews, brazil nuts, dried cranberries, raisins, dried mangoes (chopped), crystallized ginger, and pumpkin seeds. You could even throw in a handful of dark chocolate chunks if you wanted. Then I portion it out into little tupperware containers or ziplocked baggies so I eat only one portion at a time.

If you're bringing a cooler for the road trip, throw in some hummus and veggies. I make pita pockets and stuff them with hummus, lettuce, spinach, and assorted veggies.

Bring a jar of nut butter and some fruit. Spread nut butter on sliced apples or bananas.

Little boxes of raisins are good.

Granola bars are iffy. So many of them are loaded with sodium and sugar and are essentially a chocolate bar in the guise of a health food. I'd stick to less processed foods on a road trip.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I've added crackers and nut butter to my list, and I think I'll make a loaf of bread too (something sans sugar or dairy). I'll also look for shelf stable cheese while I'm jotting down other ideas to keep us fueled.

This is our second year going, so I learned last year that what I brought was not nearly enough food, nor was it varied enough to keep us from getting bored in just a couple days! We'll do much better this time. emoticon

Cheese sticks, apple with nut butter, granola, popcorn, whole wheat crackers, dried fruit, perhaps a little bit of chocolate, granola bars, mixed nuts, etc.

Have fun!!! I'm never been to a Con convention, but I've always wanted to go!

Color me jealous.

Those little individual packs of Justin's nut butters are tasty. (I found mine at Target.) One of those and an apple - yum and portioned controlled which I need for nut butters or I'll eat too much. Pretzels, laughing cow cheese wedges, preportioned baggies of cheerios, baggies of baby carrots or other prewashed and cut veggies, soy crisps, prepopped popcorn, etc. I try to have salty and sweet options because that's where temptation usually pops up for me. Also, I have a small, soft insulated bag that I'll put snacks in. Doesn't keep it super cold, but helps.

Hard-boiled eggs will keep for about 3 days out of the fridge. Cheese sticks don't technically need to be refrigerated either.

I'm totally jealous that you're going to ComicCon! I do love me a nerd convention. (I'll be at GenCon next month. :) )

Anyway, as for snacks, I think the Clif bars (or other bars like that--I love Larabars) and fruit (fresh and dried) are a great start. Nuts can be good, as long as you don't go overboard with them. The protein is pretty filling, so they'll keep you going. What about dry cereal? I know some people don't include any kind of cereal in a healthy lifestyle, but I've found that there are a few that aren't too bad--certainly better than convention food!--and make a decent snack. Popcorn could be another option.

Hope that helps, and have a great time!

Hi all! Next week DH and I are traveling to ComicCon. This means long hours at the convention and standing in lines for hours, poor access to quality food, having to eat in a hurry and/or while standing up - it boils down to eating terrible/not at all if I don't come prepared.

What snacks would you bring to get you through 5 days of nerd-convention living? I also don't mind preparing/cooking stuff in advance, as long as it doesn't require refrigeration and will last.

So far I've really only got Clif bars and fruit. Help me with ideas, please!
