I am a volume eater too. So I know what you mean. When I want something sweet, I almost always go with berries. I can eat container of strawberries and feel good about it, lol!
There are not many other sweet items that I can eat a lot of without guilt or having it effect the scale.
I like to do berries with a little bit of blasamic vinegar drizzled on top. It sounds weird, but the tang is delicious!! I like that with some non-fat ricotta cheese mixed in. It's like a cheese cake dessert. No lie.
I also make a "sweet salad". 2 or 3 cups of greens with about 1 cup of any fruit I am desiring and a low fat poppy seed dressing and maybe some nuts or seeds thrown in for crunch. I feel like I eat for hours and it's all good for me.

You could also try searching for a tofu mousse recipe. They usually use soft tofu, cocoa powder and honey. Protein rich and you only taste the chocolate. Tofu is basically flavorless and i have made this for guests who otherwise wouldn't be caught dead eating tofu.. as long as it was my secret, they loved it.

Instead of going for something that you can eat a ton of, would you consider something that is filling so you don't want to eat more than a small/med portion?

I try to add protein/healthy fat to each meal, so that I feel satiated for hours after I eat. Salmon or chicken have not a ton of calories so I can eat a 4-5 oz portion, and I am full after that. I also keep a carton of hard boiled eggs on hand for a quick snack (1 or 2 depending on what else I've eaten/how hungry I am). Lunch usually includes beans.

Do something everyday that your future self will thank you for.

This is something I've wondered for a while. A brownie serving is so small if you are using real sugar, eggs, and cream. I can't eat artificial sweeteners as well. Even truvia and other "natural" sweeteners don't fare well for me.

One of my favorite desserts is 1/2 to 1 cup of Chobani vanilla chocolate chunk yogurt (get the Champions if you want instant portion control) with a generous serving of frozen mixed berries. Mix the yogurt and fruit together and let sit for 10 minutes so the berries start to thaw. You can really bulk up the dessert with the fruit.

Angelfood cake is another good option with berries, but I'll eat the entire cake if I buy it, so I try to avoid it.

Thanks for your suggestions! I'm sensitive to artificial sweeteners, but have used Truvia a little. I like the idea of adding something sweet to something kind of plain like greek yogurt. I already eat quite a bit of cottage cheese. I'm on the other end of the spectrum from weight loss, but used to rely heavily on artificially sweetened pudding, yogurt etc...until I developed an intolerance for it; panic attack symptoms, tingling, numbness, anxiety etc...These stopped after going cold turkey on the artificial sweeteners. I changed other things in my life too, but it seemed to be related to the sweeteners. (I tried to reintroduce them and experienced he symptoms again)-: Anyway, I'll continue to look here for further comments, thanks a lot!

Are you allergic to artificial sweeteners or do you just not like the flavor? I am allergic to aspartame and would like to avoid them totally...but a bit of Splenda here and there saves me.

Honestly, I think that you are going to have to give up the notion of eating large volumes of unmeasured food if you want to lose weight. You are probably going to have to learn to cook real food from scratch too.

You CAN work just about any treat into your diet, but that will come at the expense of the things that provide you with necessary nutrition and that keep you full. It's a trade off.

One thing that *might* work for you would be smoothies. You can actually get a lot of volume for your nutrition buck, and if you use berries that are high in fiber they are even more filling.
I like 3/4 C frozen blackberries (I pick and freeze them every summer) with 3/4 cup vanilla soy milk. Strawberries are good with regular milk as are raspberries. I add Splenda and blend until liquefied, but limited amounts of table sugar would be fine as long as you really do measure/limit the sugar.

Another smoothie that is higher in carbs but still reasonable is a homemade orange Julius. It is 1/2 c frozen orange juice (not concentrate), 1/2 C milk, a dash of vanilla and some sweetener.

Plain, fresh berries are a good option, at least in the summer. I ate about 2C of raspberries the other day when I was doing U-Pick and figured that it would totally blow my diet...but even that many berries is only 28 carbs and 120 calories.

You could try mixing something really sweet with something that is full of protein. I made jam with the aforementioned raspberries, and just a tablespoon is pretty great mixed in with half a cup of Greek yogurt. Another similar idea would be cottage-cheese-based cheesecake with a thin fruit topping.

How do you feel about stevia (truvia) or nectrese as a sweetener??
You could take lowfat, plain yogurt, add fruit and one of these sweeteners.

I wonder if there is a snack or reciepe that is sweet (not necessarily chocolate) and you can have a lot of it? I know portion control is key, but sometimes I just want to eat, and not worry about portions so much. Am I nuts? thanks....
p.s. I don't really cook but could try something easy - also, I can't tolerate artificial sweeteners - sorry
