1200 cals a day for a man is way under eating. That's the minimum intake for a woman. I'm petite and would probably faint on anything less than 1300 cals.

Starvation diets or any diet that is torture is not going to lead to maintainable weight loss. I prefer to learn healthy habits and eat in a way that I can manage for the rest of my life.

"Toning" is marketing muscles to women who are afraid if they pick up a barbell, they'll leave the gym looking like She-Hulk. If you don't want to get bulky, lift heavy!

I can bench Nicole Richie, eat more than she does in a day before noon, I have a good 20 lbs on her but could still wear her pants.

All of these fad diets have one thing in common:

Short term changes that are intended to bring about fast weight loss, but don't teach you sustainable eating patterns.

What I like about Sparkpeople is it teaches you to eat a healthy, balanced diet that revolves around moderation... not crash diets, restrictive rules, nor elimination of entire food groups.

I would never encourage the use of an eating plan that is "painful" and a "bear". There are many healthy ways to lose weight. I suggest a more balanced plan that includes meat/lean protein, fruits, veggies, lowfat dairy, whole grains....a variety of tasty foods, makes weigh loss easier and longterm.

Anyone try this diet/ULCD from Bob Harper as a predecessor to the 20 simple rules? I'm in day 2 now, but find that I'm eating a ton, but it's all no cal greens. It averages to about 1200 cals which is the min, and only for 3 weeks, but it's a bear.

Also, guy's 1.5 portion structure makes just eating painful. I'll keep updating if people are interested, but wondered if anyone else has tried this and has any thoughts.
