Most multi vitamin-mineral supplements provide about 100% of most vitamins and minerals.

One that is not met at 100% in a single pill form is calcium. It is a "large" mineral and would make the pill to big to swallow. Therefore you find calcium in 250-500mg amounts (about 25-50% of total need). For someone who uses some milk products daily, this is probably all that is needed.

So it comes down to the specific vitamin or mineral, the rest of your diet, your diagnosis and the recommendation by your doctor/dietitian.

No I haven't asked my doctor. It's just a question I thought of today while taking my regular vitamins.

It depends on the pills in question. Have you talked to your doctor about vitamin supplementation?

When it is suggested to take a certain amount of MG per day of a vitamin in which you have to take multiple pills to achieve the amount, is it more effective to take them all at once, or to take them at equal parts of the day to spread it out? (IE say you should take 1,200 mg of a vitamin but you would have to take 3 pills to get 1,200 mg. Do you take them all in the morning, or do you take 1 pill 3x a day?) I'm just wondering if it's more effective taken all at once or spread out.
