I'm old so I know what the old adage is. It's "feed a cold and starve a fever." Whenever I am catching a cold I start with a fever. I am not hungry but I do force myself to eat some hot chicken soup, either noodles or rice, followed by a shot of Nyquil. It knocks me out and I can sleep for hours, which is exactly what the body needs. When I wake up I usually have some toast. So I guess you can say that I really do "starve a fever."
When the fever is gone and I'm left with the cold, I can eat everything and anything I get my hands on. My favorite is macaroni and cheese. After I indulge in that I try really hard to behave myself the rest of the day.
When the fever/cold is all over, I usually find that I have lost weight.
Sometimes the old ways DO work!
