The ground flax seed doesn't seem to add any texture or flavor. The whole seeds would add texture buy I've read that your body absorbs the nutrients better if ground. My DH bought whole seeds the last time so I run them through my little coffee mill.

I like chia seeds also and they do add an "interesting" texture.

I also take a high grade fish oil (Barlean's). I am 66 years old and my cholesterol is great. Best in 30 or so years. Of course I probably have good genes but my efforts to be healthy have paid off.

Next month we will be camping and hiking in Alaska over 3 weeks and just realized our parents would not have been able to make the trip at our age. So congratulations to you for taking good care of yourself.

How about experimenting with different types of fish? I don't generally like fish either, but by trying lots of different kinds I've found several that I do like. Whole foods are almost always a better bet than supplements, because usually there's something else in the food that helps the nutrient to work. Learning to like fish is going to be healthier in the long run than taking pills.

As mentioned in my previous post squid oil is probably the best source, due to it's high DHA content - www.pharmamarine.com/default.aspx?menu=22

I've read krill oil can be nasty if it repeats on you.

If you're going with fish oil, the best source would be wild caught cold water fish - look for pharmaceutical grade quality as an assurance of purity. I don't know if they're available where you live, but Ascenta is a good brand, as is Carlson and Nordic Naturals

Squid oil - high in Omega 3's EPA & DHA and environmentally sustainable. Chia seeds are great but not so much as a source of Omega 3's, as the type of Omega 3 (ALA) has to be processed into a form that is usable by your body, which is a very inefficient process - very little of the Omega 3's in plant derived sources actually converts to the forms, primarily EPA and DHA, that are used by your body. www.dhaomega3.org/Overview/Conversion-Effi

Chia seeds. (yes, those chia seeds) You can order them online or buy them at whole foods. You can sprinkle them on your salads. I add them to my smoothies. They have more omega-3's than fish! I highly recommend it! (they don't really have a taste.)
