To keep the calories low, I use ground turkey breast and add flavor by mixing in herbs, spices, and vegetables. If you don't like the chunks of vegetable, grate them instead of chopping. That also helps keep it moist :)

I make turkey burgers on a regular basis- I often don't even add in egg! But if I do, I add egg white. A favorite is to just add dry ranch dressing mix, black pepper, finely diced onion, and a splash of lemon juice. I pan cook them with just a spray of oil. We love them with sauteed mushrooms, and spread our 100 calorie buns with ranch (greek yogurt + dry ranch mix + fresh herbs). Sometimes we'll add cheese- not always though!

A little bit of onion in the mix keeps the burgers moist, as does the splash of lemon juice- those are staples regardless of how I'm flavoring up the burgers! Pesto, salsa & taco seasoning, garlic + feta + sundried tomato + olives, etc!

Thank you all very much. I am going to try all the suggestions and recipes. I was just having a hard time finding something that fit in to what SP recommended -- which was a 3oz turkey burger for 120 calories. This is all new to me, and sometimes discouraging......so I am grateful for all your help.

I usually just salt and pepper on mine and maybe add some Johnny's seasoning salt if I want to add veggies, I add chopped onions, chopped red bell peppers, some oats, and egg whites and mix it all together make a patty and cook in non-stick pan.

Cheers,

I find the best burgers come not from a recipe but from simple experimentation. The best turkey burger I EVER made was lean ground turkey, a few pinches of curry powder, minced garlic, minced onion, and chopped red bell pepper with some salt and pepper. SOOO so good!

Experiment with different seasonings for flavour and different veggies mixed in. Onion / garlic are always good ones for a bit of moisture and flavour (I find when I put onion in a burger it's so much juicier). Try shredded veggies, (carrot, zucchini, etc) for an added boost!

Hi THATCHERSMOM5

Just add 1 Tbs of chunky salsa (mild, med. hot - whatever you prefer) to the 3 oz ground turkey.
Sprinkle pepper, cumin, Mrs Dash garlic and herb to season it up.

Using non-stick cooking spray, just fry it up until cooked through. Just be ginger in flipping the burger so it doesn't fall apart on you if not using a binder like egg or breadcrumb..

It makes a very yummy burger.

whatever you create, you can put in your own recipe box, and it will calculate the nutritional information for you, by the way.

That way, you can develop your own options/style if you don't find a recipe you completely like.

I keep a box of frozen Jennie-O turkey burger patties in the freezer, because the rest of my family eats red meat and I don't, so when they're making regular burgers, I can just pull out one of those. (I hate to cook.)

I just had a turkey burger for dinner. I make mine as a sort of meatloaf recipe (with an egg, onion, breadcrumbs, and seasonings mixed in) and bake them in the oven. They stay moist and you don't have to add any extra oil.

Then I suggest you cook the patty in a non stick pan. You can use a little cooking spray. Season also with pepper and/or Italian seasoning. Good luck and enjoy.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did find the recipe but I think it is over the calories that I'm suppose to eat -- SP recommended a 3 oz patty at 120 calories.

I recommend Chef Meg's Greek Turkey Burger. You'll find the recipe in Spark Recipes. It's yummy.

And welcome to SP.

I am new to this site and the menu has me having a turkey burger Friday night for supper, but it doesn't tell me how to prepare it. Any suggestions? I want to make sure I don't go over my calorie count by adding stuff -- eggs and bread crumbs -- that I would normally use to make a ground beef burger.
