I went from not really exercising at all to working a custodial job at a gym. (I get a free membership!) Shifts are 3-4 hours, and occasionally a split shift of 7 hours total for the day with one 3 hour break in between those hours.
I used an online calculator that measures in METs and it says I am burning a LOT of calories. Of course it isn't an exact calculation, but is around 600-800 calories per shift, which would make the split shift around 1,200-1,600. (I weight 178lbs) I'll be working 6 days a week.
The job is a lot of squatting, walking (including up and down stairs), lifting (not super heavy things, but it feels heavy by the end of the shift! My arms are constantly moving. We do a lot of mopping, we use a 10-15 pound vacuum that you wear like a back pack for about an hour every night. I sweat a lot.
As of right now this is enough of a work out. 0_0 I feel the effects for sure. But eventually, maybe in like a month i'd like to start using my membership. My boss lost 40 pounds JUST from doing this job. She doesn't use her membership.
So the biggest issue now is, I don't know how to eat. I didn't know how to eat when i wasn't burning calories either. 0_0 Yesterday I worked the split shift, and I ate this huge taco salad. It had chicken and pinto beans, rice, salad, tomatoes, and guacamole, and salad dressing. This was a high calorie salad, and i still came home from my second shift starving. Anyone have any advice? Point me towards some articles or something?
