Nothing says "summer" like watermelon! And it's really sweet, especially once your taste buds have gotten used to eating less refined sugar.

Thanks for posting the topic. There are a lot of good ideas here!

Healthy Choice has some frozen greek yogurt. They are really yummy. But I would also suggest smoothies as an option. Or even make your own homemade frozen fruit bars.

Grilled pineapple is delicious! I live in a little apartment and can't have either kind of outdoor gril - gas or charcoal grill. I ended up getting a DeLonghi indoor electric grill and it works great.

Grilling fruit would be a first. I have been living at my current apt. for nearly 2 years and have been thinking about getting a grill. I havent because I have no clue what to look for in a grill other than I want a tabletop or smaller one and we cant have charcoal grills only ones that use gas/LP.

I havent ever used a gas grill or any for the most part. My parents and family have always used charcoal grills. Gas are good though the flavor can taste fumey in my experience of eating food cooked on gas grills. If anyone knows what to look for in a gas grill or grills in general that are portable and tabletop ones, it would be apreciated.

How about grilling some fruit to bring out the sweetness? Pineapple, peaches, and nectarines all taste great grilled. Or slice bananas in a foil packet with a smidge of brown sugar and then grill.

All sweet, summery, and delicious.

I love my ice cream and frozen greek yogurt, so just have them when I want, but in smaller portions (yes, 1/2 cup really can be enough - who knew?!).

My favorite for summer, though, is having a ton of fresh fruit and berries always in the fridge ready to nibble on. I'll put out a spread of cut up watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, kiwis, apples, pears, cherries, and whatever else I can find. I make a dip out of unsweetened organic plain yogurt with unsweetened cocoa powder to get the chocolate taste. I find that the fruit makes it sweet enough, but you could always add a touch of sweetener to the dip if you prefer. I have sometimes used a touch of Kahlua to the dip to give it a slightly different flavour.

Oooh - now I'm all impatient for summer to get here!

skinnytaste.com has a number of "recipes" for different kinds of popsicles. You can go on the site and use the search function to find them. I know I have these on my list to try this summer www.skinnytaste.com/2012/07/cherry-lime-ic
e-pops.html
Also growing up, my mom would just make us popsicles with juice, usually apple juice.

I bought popsicle molds at Ikea for $1, but you can even just use little paper cups and popsicle sticks.

I do my "banana ice cream" by freezing whole left over bananas and then tossing one in the food processor. Then I process until smooth (you may have to add some water to get it to coming together). I've processed them with PB2 for a yummy peanut butter and banana flavor. I've also added a cup of frozen strawberries in with my banana for a strawberry banana sorbet feel.

Banana Ice cream:

Peel and mash some over-ripe bananas and then freeze them. It has roughly the consistency of soft serve ice cream. Delicious with a drizzle of chocolate syrup!

Hi SARAHMO4

I've discovered Walden Farms Chocolate Syrup (0 calorie - 2 Tablespoons.)

I'll cut up 100-150 calories of whatever fruit I have on hand: Strawberry, raspberry, banana or orange and drizzle 2 teaspoons syrup over it. Stick it in the freezer for 20 minutes. (don't need a lot of syrup a little goes a long way to give a deep, delicious chocolate flavor).

I have this instead of heading off to Dairy Queen and ultimately end up having something over 300 calories.

Well, I know that summer is coming with all the sun, new growth, and its warm enough to enjoy ice cream without freezing. My biggest issue is finding a cool and sweet alterative to ice cream and sherbet in the summer. I have thought about everything from yogurt to gelato, to frozen fruit. I can remember eating frozen yogurt a few times and it was interesting, gelato I had twice and I love the flavors.

I am open to all things, I am not too picky about most things. Trying something wont kill me and isnt a big deal. I am thinking about what to try now so I have different options later and know what I like and dont like. Another big issue with food is confusion on what to pick when looking for a new food. I go into stores and theirs so many chocies that kind of overwhelm me and it can take a while to decide on anything if I do get something.

I do want to try and go more natural in terms of sweetness too. For the first time ever I can taste and enjoy the natural sweetness in foods like apples or pears and have done surprisingly well with cutting out super sweet or salty processed foods. Its not to the point where I love everything, it has been a gradual reduction from processed type flavors to natural flavors and foods. For me making little changes and finding a solution that I can stick with before making more changes has helped a lot.
