I had a bad little surprise the other day when I realized that Danone Silhouette yogourt has changed its formula.
There is a slightly different picture on the container, and the nutrition facts, instead of being listed for 1/2 cup (100 grams) are now for 3/4 cup (175 grams). It throws a person off and makes it hard to compare foods (sizes of servings as well as price).
There are now 40 calories per 100 grams (individual size container). There used to be 35 calories. If I buy the 650 gram tub, I'm now paying for almost 40 more calories than I used to.
The number of calories is not the biggest issue here; it's the fact that if you don't check food labels, even familiar ones, something can change and you won't even know it.
This applies not only to things like calories, but to everything in the food. What if you are allergic or sensitive to something in the food? What if you prefer to stay away from a particular ingredient for other reasons?
As usual, let the buyer beware!
Every time I take a bite, I make a choice.
