If by some chance your Dr. does recommend it (for example, my Dr. recommends it to treat an eye condition that I have) here is a quick answer of what I know about it.
Some fish oil has omega-3 in it, and some does not. You want the fish oil that contains the omega-3, not the fish oil without omega-3.
You would buy a product that says something such as "NatureMade Fish Oil (1000 mg) with Omega-3 (300 mg)". Labels says take 2 capsules (softgels) per day, but you would take whatever amount your Dr. recommends.
Again, shoot for a well-balanced diet and you won't need the supplements. If you don't enjoy the foods that provide omega-3, then supplements per Dr.
