I don't do meal replacement shakes; like dragonchilde, I like to eat food and food is my "problem"-- learning what to eat and in what quantities is what I'm focusing on. I just never really feel satisfied if I drink the calories, as opposed to chewing on real food.
Many people make their own smoothies, adding protein powder etc-- I think that would be a healthier alternative because then you know exactly what's in it. Lots of times those store-bought things have a bunch of who-knows-what ingredrients in them.
I have used some low-carb protein shakes to up my protein intake for the day, especially when I'm at work and access to real food / lean protein is limited. I usually keep a couple in the fridge at work for an "emergency". But like I said, they don't give me the satisfaction that real food does. They're better than nothing, but not by much.
