I haven't sworn off, but I have basically quit.
I first put a time limit up, no coffee after noon. I don't know exactly how much volume that cut out, but it did break part of the habit without any headaches. I left it that way for a few months.
I then, consciously cut to two cups and held that for about two months. When I went to one cup, I felt I needed a bit of replacement. I use green tea, and a honey/lemon juice concoction from whole living. The latter is a part of their detox program, which I do not prescribe to, but do lift some recipes from them. About a month of that, and I totally replaced the coffee with one or the other of those drinks.
Where I backslide is when backpacking. I have a breakfast drink that I just can't find palatable without a little coffee in it. I've only had a few of those in the past two months, and don't have a craving for it.
I never had a headache, that I account to caffeine withdrawal, through this ordeal.
