I have a snack pretty much every single night.
If you stay within your calorie range, it really shouldn't make much of a difference.
I think that the advice to not eat after a certain time is to help people who tend to mindlessly graze while they watch TV or something cut out a bunch of empty calories. But if you're already watching calories, and you can afford to have a snack, then I say go for it. I plan my snacks in. Usually I have a fairly large snack in the evenings, actually.
Personally, I don't sleep well if I'm hungry and I usually get hungry if I don't have a snack around 9:00.
